Just ticked over 125k miles last week, so still good. Ive had it since it came in as a lease return with 12k miles on it, so its had a pretty gentle life. I put a set of tires on it a month ago and the guy told me I had 60% left on factory brakes.

We looked at the Mach-E but she didnt care. We are only at 80k miles in her Explorer, so we'll just ride that out for a bit too.

I still want our next new one to be electric, but with all the price nonsense and shortages these days we're sitting this baby out for now.

Needed a new car, told my wife to look at a Benz or a BMW. She alone makes over $300k and told me she dosent want to be seen in one. Ended up with an Accord, not even the top trim. But thats her, if you feel you need to show the world you made it, which is perfectly fine if you did, then go for it. She said she would feel awkward going to work in a new luxury car while her employees barely make minimum wage.

This. If you're buying it for the wrong reasons, then don't get one. You may even just have limiting beliefs around the perception of money. If you don't want to be flashy, then don't. Plenty of other options available. If you want to go under the radar, tons of options.

If you don't care about what people think and actually enjoy driving or comfort or luxury or performance, then buy what fits the category.

Also, you can drive a G wagon for a year and sell it and your payment will still be less than the suburbanite's 3-series or model 3 car payment. Tons of vehicles fit in that category where you can drive something nice or an exotic and not lose insanely on it. But you have to look for the right options that fit that category.

I know people with tons of money (ceo $10k/day type) that just buy a landcruiser or lexus and call it a day. Others that I know don't have time to mess with cars so they just buy the an x5 and drive it for 10 years even though they could pay cash for a Urus and not bat an eye. But of course, they would rather buy a new company instead of doing that.

Do you. Don't worry about what others think. Yes, G wagons will stick out unless you live in Miami or LA. But Range rovers are everywhere because the current gen has been around for a while now and depreciated heavily so more people have them (even if they can't afford the maintenance). I am not talking about the autobiography or svr. And by the way, the RR SVR maintains value really well that you could sell it in 6 months- 1 year and not lose much on it. Just buy the right one.

Great points. Even the new gen g wagon is great since the price hasnt moved in over 2 years for both used and new

Honestly, unless its a lamborghini i barely even look. I always lul at the *******s who buy bmw's, benz, etc and try to flex like its some sort of accomplishment. Maybe its just me but the car has to look like its about to orbit the moon for me to give 2 fuks. I'm talking Pagani, high end lambos, buggatis, etc. A ferrari 360 can be bought for the price of a high end gmc sierra now....not that impressive.

G wagons basically look the same to an average pleb on the street. You could buy a mid 2000's model for dirt cheap and still flex if you wanna. I do this chit with my jeep...its a 2013 paid off, but i have done a ton of mods to it. Put Apple Car play and upgraded leather in. People who ride think its much newer than it is.. Unless you are a car person, which like maybe 12% of the population is, you can ball on a budget without anyone knowing.

It is pointless if you're doing it for others, it is just a vehicle. Buy a vehicle that serves the purpose most suited to your lifestyle, nothing else.

Why not build a car or buy an older car and rejuvenate it? You won't get judged then

Buy one of these and engine swap an AMG engine inside of it

In a few years, wouldn’t mind getting a 05-09 vette
Made the post as joke lol - but $7000. Seems like more people are catching on and buying them. I never realized how many panther bodies were still on the road today until I started driving one.

But srsly it is probably the most comfortable vehicle I've sat in. Only other one that might be slightly better was a GX470. Would love a 470/460 but that 13mpg premium fuel would suck.

My problem with vettes is that 95% of owners hardly drive them and look to sell a 2009 vette for the price it was new... $60k+ meanwhile it has 374 miles and is 11 years old.

As the saying goes: I don’t save myself from my girlfriend to make her better for the next guy (in this case mileage on the car)

I almost bought a neighbors high mileage C6 Z06 but bought an investment property instead. Always have had a soft spot for that model

Which sucks, because years ago I would have happily bought one, but now I'd feel like a little bit of a douche driving one.

Have any of you gone through this, is it in my head? Is it still cool to drive one of those things or does it actually look like you're trying too hard? I don't ever want to go the route of a basic SUV, I want some class and luxury but.. I can't get myself to consider a nice Range anymore. Thoughts?

30's is when you start realizing just how much it costs to own "flashy cars"

Ive had my M5 for 3 years now. In that time it had the engine blow and some other minor issues that the warranty covered in the $40k range(nearly what I paid for it!). Warranty ran out a few months ago and Im getting ready for a $4500 bill. Dont get me wrong, having 600+whp on tap with 4 seats and every option of comfy there is rocks...BUT you have to be super careful if its raining, hell even when its dry with that much power and its so fat its pretty stupid to take it racing.

Cost of ownership and amount of fun I can actually have with it has made me realize Im better off with a cheap reliable beater and decent ferrari 458 or mclaren 650s. And if the covid work from home thing stays at my office I will do exactly this next year.
