I guess I’ll have to just see diff opinions. Saw an orthopedic surgeon today that initially told me I probably wouldn’t need surgery, but he still wanted to see an mri. Also taking those mri results to a diff doctor.

Hopefully i can make it work somehow
Bruising/internal bleeding and doesn't want to get surgery.

Give it a couple days and you won't be able to stretch your arm, weeks you won't be able to sleep on your left side. Months? Gl might have to amputate

Ended up going to the ER, ultra sound, mri etc, waiting on the results of the mri but judging from the ultrasound doctor says it’s very likely I won’t need surgery.

Not sure on that one, but we will see, will have a second opinion later on the week.

Listen to your gut guys, your body has ways of telling you that you are pushing yourself over your limits. I’m looking at at least a few months of recovery/therapy before I can even think about upper body hyper trophy.

That’s life son. Just wanted to share, hope everyone stays safe and take it easy on your strength goals (for the few lifters that remain here)
Sorry to hear bro.

I went through the same thing. I was two weeks out from a meet and my right pec major tore off the humerous. complete detachment at the bone. went straight to the hospital, MRI and surgery within a couple days. It's been one year on exactly now and the psychological effect is worse than the injury when benching!

how mad was the sound when it tore. so loud! I actually filmed my set aswell and you can see the moment it tears.
Enjoy lifting heavy circles 4 times a week.

Fuk. Switched to the hammer strength machine recently, might be a good call lol.
How's your benching form? Tucked elbows?
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.

The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."

The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

OP I tore my pec a few years ago. I have an inch of scar tissue along the muscle/tendon joint.

Made the mistake of training chest when my chest had some slight doms from doing dips a couple of days earlier. I felt the doms on the warm up sets but thought I would be OK.. on the 7th rep of my 1st work set my left pec tore similar to how you describe. I had a spotter so I was lucky.

It was my 1st serious muscle tear from weightlifting so I'm much more careful now.

Honestly took me 6 months before I was benching at a decent intensity again and probably 9-12 months to feel no discomfort at all. I PB'd on bench a couple of years after the tear so no need to LDAR.

I did a few in my training, but I’m a trauma guy and fix fractures mainly.

Fuark op sounds brutal my guy. Wishing you a speedy recovery and I would hope you're back at it soon with some adjustments to lifting.

I'm stunned at the number of miscers that had similar injuries, way more than expected. I'm a natty but in my 30s now and there's a part of your mind as a man that screams at you to push it and show you still "got it" like you're early 20s but thanks to this forum and seeing all the horror stories I decided to drastically change my lifting habits. I no longer do heavy weights. Benching or squatting super heavy weights has no real practical benefits imo. The funniest **** ever is now that I'm using moderate weights and only machines and occasional dumbbells 3-4 days a week my physique is at its literal fuking peak lol. Maybe I was causing too much stress/damage and my body couldn't keep up fast enough then but now I look and feel great.

Highly suggest to other 30cels to cut down the crazy lifting, do more cardio and train with longevity in mind.

Stay safe op, hope we get some good updates on your recovery.

So whats the move here?

No more sets of 3 or less? Strictly No BB? Might just go 5x5 for life on chest and focus on weighted pullups. I never hear about freak lat tears. Also might just focus on more flexibility/core based moves like the L-Sit.

Really sorry to hear that OP. You seem to be in a great mindset after the event though. I'm sure you'll be fine.

If you have the option of surgery, take it. A doctor's definition of whether you 'need' it will vary greatly, so it's not a good question to ask. Instead be more specific and ask how much of your original functionality and appearance could you expect to regain with or without surgery.

Heal up and let it be a life-long lesson brah. Heavy weights are only worth it when you are a competitive athlete and need peak strength/power. Assuming you just want to look good/be athletic/be stronger then 99% of the population. You don't need to get too crazy with it.

If you can't do over 8 reps with a set amount of weight. Don't do it. A tear/injury is not worth the ego boost of moving a large amount of weight for a few reps. OP did 275 for 8 which is a pretty big indicator he should have stuck to that weight until he was hitting about 12 reps on it before adding weight.

Literally everyone I've ever met with a lifting injury/tear did it with max weights in a 1-3 rep range. In OP's case it happened on #4. With that said now that I'm in my 30s I don't dip below 8 reps. Its not necessary to get stronger or to grow muscle. Being healthy/long term consistency is the most important thing.

the mindset of the weak and feeble

ive developed obscene power and size with low reps. There are those that bend the iron to their will, in the crucible of pain, and those powder puffs content to fluff in the shadows

I've been training about 16 years now and I've been on juice for a long time. The weight I used to use when I trained for 'strength' in the 1-5 rep range as a natty is now the weight I use for 12+ reps as an enhanced lifter.

If you're a natural lifter you don't have power or size brah.

Im still figuring out if I want to push for a surgery to get it reattached and get back to as close to 100% as I can, or if I say fuk it and just let it heal on its own and obviously never ever get close to lifting as heavy in my life.

Tough scenario, need to find me a good surgeon that knows wtf he’s doing.

One thing I’m sure of tho, I’m not doing even a push-up in what’s left of 2022. I’m out for the season.
Good move. I don't remember how long I was out of lifting but it was several weeks for sure. I hate it even now because I know I could never get back to where I was without hopping on dat dere, and I wasn't on dat dere then or ever. Feels bad. Almost nine years on and it still looks like it does when you cut into a piece of deer meat.

Also. Get back in the gym for other body parts as soon as you’re allowed. And also do your non-injured side. It’s counterintuitive, but doing the non-injured side helps prevent muscle wasting/atrophy on the injured side.

Yeah man. Good to see so many good wishes and helpful posts from the misc, this brought me back to the golden era where many people lifted and supported each other, and not just talked about sloots or political differences (which im guilty of TBF lol), but actual lifting and personal experiences.
