i put down Lolita for now. its a good read but im just not interested enough to continue for a while.
currently reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius (very insightful) and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (pretty good but hooooly chit its a slow burn). also been into some charles bukowski chit. been getting lazy with my reading because of stress but im gonna take it more seriously now.

Started and finished Animal Farm. I've never read it and it's kind of required reading. Great book and it's only 100 pages so I would recommend it, easily
I gotta say the thing I noticed about a lot of these kinds of books like 1984, Animal Farm, Brave New World, Farenheit 451, etc. is that a lot of people don't actually read the books, rather they just read a synopsis or hear a lecture about it somewhere and think they have the general gist of the book down and can forego reading the book. I can say you definitely need to read these books (if you're interested in this kind of subject matter, of course) because everything is much more impactful. Before reading Animal Farm I had heard the line "All animals are equal... but some animals are more equal than others" a dozen times but it didn't really resonate with me fully until I read the story and caught the build-up to that moment, the escalation of misery and subversion among the inhabitants of Animal Farm, and it all made much more sense. Same goes with 1984 and the "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength" mantra. It really hits home with you and there is no ambiguity whatsoever to what it means.

Finished Prince Caspian. Easy one day read hah, I should burn through all the Narnia books fast. It's funny reading books geared for younger readers after reading "normal" adult books. The stories move so much quicker, but there's definitely a lot of details and character development that you don't get.
I liked this one, it felt like a fresh story even though I read it once before, I wasn't as familiar with it as the Wardrobe. I'll start the Dawn Treader today, I remember really liking that one.

Baltasar Gracian - The pocket oracle & art of prudence: 4/5 - very good practical advise and one of the first books to exist in the 'aphorism' style, definitely has a Machiavelli feel about it.
Cicero - On Obligation: 3.5/5 - Cicero writes this to his son shortly after Ceaser's assassination, but it's mostly a philosophical treatise rather than political. I have to say he's a wonderful writer and very philosophically minded, but i did get tired with the whining about Ceaser.
Carlo Rovelli - Anaximander and the nature of science - 5/5 - For me, this was an absolutely wonderful book. The pre-socratics have always been of interest to me and anaximander and thales in particular, and carlo rovelli doesn't disappoint. Ancient Miletus, mixed with science - what can go wrong?

Plato - Timaeus & Critias - i've read critias before but not Timaeus, which is one of plato's most cited works in the middle ages so i thought i'd read it.

He basically goes through the progression of science and the early Milesian contributions, and how Anaximander especially (even though as you probably know Thales is more famous in the philosophical tradition) led to a paradigm shift. I knew a lot of this stuff already, but it's really interesting to have it relayed from the perspective of someone working on quantum gravity with as much artistic flare as Rovelli. He merges physics, philosophy, and history which to me is such a wonderful combination. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as i did.
There is another anaximander book by him that's old and different, so just be aware and dont get the wrong one. Here's the amazon (global) link:

Now reading The Meaning of Anxiety by Rollo May. His definition of anxiety is different from the more popular version most of the rest of us use, lol. I loved the hell out of the other Rollo May book I read so I have high hopes and excitement going into this one

Great book, my favorite so far of the Narnia books, and I remember liking it a lot when I read it in my youth. reminds me some of the Odyssey... sailing unknown seas, adventure on the different islands etc

Books 3 and 4 of the Genghis series are done, just the last one to go. Fiction is not usually my thing but I'd read the author's series on Rome/Caesar in the past and enjoyed it and I'm glad I read these. I had not realized just how far the Mongols had traveled/conquered.

14 & 15 done over the weekend, The Silver Chair & A Horse and his Boy (4 and 5 of Narnia series).
Fun books, as they all have been. I thought it was funny how the antagonists in A Horse and his boy were clearly Muslims. Can't imagine how many people would get butt hurt about that now. (I thought it was a fairly accurate portrayal)

Been a busy year and haven’t sat down to read much.
Just finished setting up new book shelf space and about to go on a tear, will see how things go.
Picked up animal farm today while waiting for kid to get out of school, will probably finish tonight. Wanted to brush up on it before handing it off to my 8 year old (so we can talk about it and I can be more polished)
Got him doing some red wall books right now so transition to talking animals should be a pretty easy sell.

I finished "Walking the Himalayas" in 2 days, work was slow so I got a lot of reading in. I see he wrote another about walking the Arabian Peninsula I may look for. In the meantime I'm reading "The Overlanders: An African Journey".

Read this one related to PhD work. It was a very geek-tier and jargon filled book but it reinforced the idea that biology isn't about matter or goo or gels or biochemistry but it's about meaning, and we need hermeneutic and semiotic explanations which science hasn't worked into its physics-centered methodology.
In short, there's nothing in physics which allows you to deduce the emergence or existence of life. The gap remains as infinite as ever.

Finished book 6 & 7 of Narnia series
Glad I dug these out and finished the series, it was a fun read, even as an adult. I especially liked book 6 which was a prequel. The way it tied together with the first book was great.
It always said how Christian these books are, but I didn't think it was in your face at all. Except for the final book, most of it was subtle unless you look for it. I really didn't notice anything until the 5th book.

Finished reading "The Overlanders: An African Journey". I didn’t love the ending but it was good. It is a non-fiction story but written like a novel so that was interesting as well.

I bought this yesterday and read the whole thing on a 3 hour coach trip home. Rovelli is a great popularizer and breaks down complex quantum physics topics. That's a really admirable skill since a lot of scientists are poor communicators and can't break down the deal with quantum physics.
I especially liked his integration of his interpretation of quantum physics with Nagarjuna's Buddhist philosophy and also how we bypass the classical mind-body problem.
I'm gonna get his latest book too.

I'm gonna get his latest book too.
Makes me want to go pick up Nagarjuna's book now (i've read most of the classics in western philosophy but i have to admit i've largely neglected eastern philosophy outside of Jungs work) i've often thought that QM shows the subject-predicate, or 'I' forms of philosophy are outdated, and maybe we need to make way for a more event-driven (and relational) philosophy, but i've never been able to fully articulate it to myself the way Rovelli does. Rovelli is probably my favourite pop-physics author.

I'm not quite halfway through Conqueror, the last book in Conn Iggulden's Genghis series. I also started Landscape Turned Red: The Battle of Antietam by Stephen Sears. I read his book about Gettysburg maybe a year ago and have been wanting to read this one on Antietam and I have another on the battle of Chancellorsville as well.

As I was reading Narnia, I remembered another series I had started and never finished as a kid: Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. Grabbed the 5 book box set and ripped through it in a week.
Fun story, great characters, felt like more detailed story telling than the Narnia books. The end of the series had a bit of a LOTR feel.
Anyhow, it's been fun reading some ones started in my childhood (and an easy way to pad my stats hah), but I'm more than ready to dive into something with more meat:
Picked up the Mistborn trilogy over the weekend and I'm already 100 pages into the first book, digging it so far

Finished book one of Mistborn (the Final empire) by Brandon Sanderson.
I loved it, anxious to dive into book 2 tonight. It's funny, if you told me a brief plot summary, i'd probably be "Meh" about it, but cot damn was it a good read. Must be his writing style and the characters. Lots of backstory hasn't been fully revealed, so it's got me hungry for more.
