It was 95% an explicit gay romance story which added NOTHING to the story. I had to fast forward through most of the episode and I sat through all of Bruno the movie with no issue. They spent 23 seconds including Tess and Joel - liberal media indoctrination to the maximum.

Eh - watched it. I'm not some incel homophobe like most of the misc. In the end it wasn't believable. I felt a greater sense of loss with the death in Ep1. Also, since I never played the game and understand they did a little deviation (to which people are ok with), to me this episode was filler - it didn't really progress the storyline at all other than being a character piece. My wife is fully far left, cries at everything and she said the same. It was just meh. Maybe because its difficult to relate to this couple and put yourself in their shoes as gay doomsday preppers. Or maybe because, in the end a full life was lived and ended so it wasn't tragic. I didn't feel any sense of loss with Ep2 death either and that was a potential HBB (though not in this show).

The gamercels don't get it. They love Bill because he was an active part of the game. He actually meets Joel and Ellie, has to take them on an awesome mission where his knowledge and traps come in handy and there was a ton of back and forth bants with him and Ellie chitting on each other. It was a great time and everyone bonded.

For the show, all TV audience gets is the 1 hour boring love story of a random dude they don't know and who never even meets Ellie. I see a bunch of people, including grown men on reddit saying the show made them cry their asses off and "omg masterpiece!" meanwhile all my irl friends and family were like wtf did I just watch, is this the same zombie show? I had to embarrassingly explain to everyone why Bill was important in the game and let them know there was no brokeback fukking in the game but I'm pretty sure they think I'm gay now. Thanks HBO.

Good to hear from someone with some game background. Makes more sense. Yeah seems, the true tragedy is that their deviation gave you some insight into Frank which wasn't there in the game (he's already dead in the game so you never meet him iirc) - but at the expense at losing the bond you make in-game with Bill. It was basically a time lapse of how bill and frank meet and their love. Basically bill left Joel anything he wanted because they did a double suicide since they got old and frank had cancer.

Ellie stole a gun Joel didn’t know about* that’s literally the only part that will come into play. They took his truck and Joel said he’d take Ellie with him to find his brother since he used to be a firefly and will prob know what to do with her. Ellie never meet them and just read the letter he left for Joel.

Lol yeah man if they wanted to do a throwback they could have made the Bill section play off like the game so at least you care about him first. Then do a shorter flashback about his tragic story later on in the season. The mistake the show made was giving you this hour long throwback on episode fking 3... The time where the real characters are meant to start bonding.

I'm also not convinced of Ellie's actress, as well as the darker/more sinister route they are taking her character. The game version she was far more expressive, innocent and endearing. Imagine being mogged by a video-game version of yourself.

I still would dislike because it was an unnecessary as fuk and dragged on hard. Who is Bill, just some random dude Joel got a battery from? Okay.. Why should the audience even care?

In the game you care because he rescues you while you're searching for him and they have a whole act together fighting zombies which was fantastic.

Honest question, when you're rewatching over the show will you keep watching this episode? I would honestly skip it, there's no replayability. It was just so long and romance filled with almost nothing happening.

He’s gay in the game and it’s a Hollywood production so of course they’re going to draw you in with an explosive first episode and then come to a screeching halt with 90 minute side-story origin tales.

It’s a good show. The episode could have been action packed but instead fudge packed. Y’all about to be really let down and disappointed when the show ends if it’s anything like the game.
