Last I heard from FBI, mishandling classified documents, even to the extent of bleaching hard drives, is considered “extreme carelessness” but not criminal

The charges are not BS. He on tape sharing classified info and saying "I could have declassified this when President, but I can't now".

An associate of Donald Trump was charged alongside the former president in the indictment returned Thursday, according to people familiar with the matter.

A former military valet, Walt Nauta, who went to work at Mar-a-Lago after working in the Trump White House has been a key figure in the investigation into the former president’s handling of classified documents at the Florida resort. A lawyer for Nauta on Friday declined to comment.

Trump was charged on Thursday with seven counts, including violations of the Espionage Act, as well as obstruction and false statements. It isn’t clear what charges the other person indicted would face.

^ Pages 2-3 of the indictment ... Trump showed classified docs to friends ("a writer, a publisher, and two members of his staff"; "a represenative of his political action committee) at social events occuring in his golf clubs in NJ

So he held on to classified docs just to boast, basically. The classified docs were some sort of trophy from his presidency that he could show his pals and boast about what he got to do and see as President

So what if someone were to share classified docs to the press, is that bad? Asking for a friend(Comey), or is this (D)ifferent again.

Yeah Trump never cared about governing/presiding. He only cared about the title of President and the fame.

That's why his Presidency was such a disaster and why he fulfilled none of his campaign promises.

My understanding is that Comey gave his lawyers memos detailing his interactions with Trump in 2017. Two of the memos had a "few words"(yes, words ... not statements or paragraphs) that were classified as "confidential," the lowest level of secrecy.

The DOJ ruled that Comey didn't have the intent because: 1). the "few words" that were confidential were borderline between confidential and not-confidential; and 2). evidence suggested that Comey had tried in earnest to redact the confidential parts of his memos

Bill Barr himself examined the evidence and said no-crime. Trump called him, all mad that Comey didn't get charged. But Barr told Trump that the DOJ couldn't do it.

Lmao... this is the most boring thing to get Trump on but he was so stupid and arrogant about it, they actually built up a case against him. NARA and the DOJ went out of their way to ask for the documents back without making it a big deal prior to these charges. He was obstinate and kept them, eventually forcing legal action and now is crying political persecution. If he doesn't spend the rest of his life in prison over this, the Georgia case for trying to intimidate the Secretary of State into finding votes for him will be a much more compelling violation of law.

Supposed members of the party of law and order, I will happily make this trade with you as a leftist: you can have Joe and Hunter Biden, Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, whoever you want to be investigated if they also violated the law. That's not that own or defense you think it is.
