How do you right-wing troll at Reddit without catching an instant ban? We've seen wincel post here non-stop for over 24 hours straight. This place is all he has.

Reddit's idea of right wing trolling is saying you think pride parades are loud and annoying. And heaven forbid you disagree with Hillary Clinton.

Damn. Bob Garry singing a different tune these days.

Professor Robert Garry, a respected microbiologist who works at Tulane University in New Orleans, is one of five bylined on a paper in March 2020 entitled 'The Proximal Origin of Sars-Cov-2'.

This controversial paper has been accused of trying to shut down the idea that Covid might have leaked from a lab in Wuhan and had instead emerged naturally, crossing over from an animal.

The letter, published in the journal Nature Medicine, concluded: 'We do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.'

Now, Dr Garry has told the BBC this statement was never meant to dismiss all types of potential lab leak.

Speaking to Fever: The Hunt for Covid's Origin, an eight-part BBC Radio 4 series, he said they were aiming to dismiss the idea the virus had been intentionally crafted as a bioweapon.

'At that point we were still largely under the influence, when that particular sentence was written, with the notion that this may have been a bioengineered virus or maybe a weapon that just sort of accidentally released,' he said.

But pressed by John Sudworth, the BBC’s former Beijing Correspondent, on how the paper's principal conclusion covered all types of lab leaks, such as a from a disease research facility, Professor Garry admitted the wording was wrong.

‘Maybe we went a little too far there,’ he said.

His comments mark a shift in his opinion.

I think it's entirely possible and even probable that the virus originated from the Wuhan lab. But I hardly think it was developped as a bioweapon. For that it was way too weak. Unless your goal was to kill a fat old guy somewhere. How it got out though... A test subject that got out? Seems unlikely. Can't imagine them putting test subjects close to the outside. It must have been human error.

Poor guy just catching L's left and right. First he was like you can't trust these government sources, then he was defending NIH.

Well, yeah this particular virus was pretty weak, but it doesn't rule out that it was a part of their bioweapon research program, one virus amongst many that they were working on, that just so happen to accidentally get the scientists sick.

And read the article in the OP and in post # 2, they strongly suspect that the 3 scientists working at WIV got sick.

I usually find this is how the discussion plays out. It's the classical Motte and Bailey debate strategy. First you make a provocative and less defensible claim, and when you are pressed on it, you resort to a milder claim that's easier to defend or less susceptible to refutation.

Usually it starts with the claim Sars-Cov-2 was deliberately engineered or made as a bioweapon through some sort of clandestine research program at WIV. Of course, a deliberately engineered Sars-Cov-2 leaves fairly unmistakable signatures and this is easily put to the sword.

But when you resort to the claim it was just a wild-type natural virus that was merely kept in the lab, it's a far milder claim less susceptible to refutation.

LOL @ NyPost too, btw.
Back off, Warchild.

Not saying it is or isn’t designed for use as a weapon, but if you were going to let something of that nature you’d be extra careful at first. And if you are a nation with a huge demographic problem with regards to the elderly/working age ratio then it could be viewed as very beneficial to have something come through that wrecks the elderly but does very little to younger and/or healthy citizens.

So they found it in the wild, took it back to the lab to study, but then when were asked to locate the original source(which they would absolutely know if they already found it in the wild) they were unable to do so. That claim makes no sense.

Damn. Bob Garry has made multiple retractions since Proximal Origin was written, with his most recent being on a BBC podcast on June 13 (See above).

However, just 4 days before that on June 9, he lied to Congress and told them no lab-based scenario was plausible. What an idiot.

David Asher was a State Department COVID investigator under Trump. When he asked the NIH for their Covid Origins analysis, they sent him the deeply-flawed Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2 paper.

Intelligence report is out. Gullible lab leakers fell for yet another one.

"researchers’ symptoms could have been caused by a number of diseases and some of the symptoms were NOT consistent with COVID-19"

“We have NO indications that any of these researchers were hospitalized because of symptoms consistent with covid-19. One researcher may have been hospitalized in this time frame for treatment of a non-respiratory medical condition”

https://www.odni.gov/files/ODNI/docu...9-20230623.pdf

Feel stupid? Good. Stop swallowing up narratives with no evidence.

The irony of you talking about evidence. You mindlessly swallowed up a fabricated story with no evidence.

To answer your question, yeah and it’s pretty overwhelming. You just don’t understand it.

There's zero evidence for natural origin, a thousand pieces of damning evidence for lab leak and it was obvious since spring 2020, let alone now Not sure why you you insist 2+2= potato salad, but here your lying, shill ass is again. You've been wrong about everything, get over it. This was far from the first lab leak from China, merely the most contagious. Pssst, the point is we don't want this to happen. Time for China to stop pretending they are operating Level 4 labs that safety wise are like a high school chemistry class so this doesn't happen again with a virus that doesn't just kill some people who are half dead.

Everything out of China is a mirage, including lab safety.

The evidence is so overwhelming that the natural origins crew had to push pangolins, oh wait...now it's raccoon dogs.

Oh wait...

Both have been thoroughly debunked.

Wasn't it Reliance012's evolutionary biology professor, Mike Worobey, who has been pushing the wet market theory and raccoon dogs?

Oh wait....

It was!!!
The new analysis, led by Kristian Andersen, Edward Holmes, andMichael Worobey—three prominent researchers who have been looking into the virus’s roots—shows that that may not be the case. Within about half a day of downloading the data from GISAID, the trio and their collaborators discovered that several market samples that tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 were also coming back chock-full of animal genetic material—much of which was a match for the commonraccoon dog, a small animal related to foxes that has a raccoon-like face.

Page 6 of the ODNI report:
Some of the WIV’s genetic engineering projects on coronaviruses involved techniques that could make it difficult to detect intentional changes. A 2017 dissertation by a WIV student showed that reverse genetic cloning techniques—which are standard techniques used in advanced molecular laboratories—left no traces of genetic modification of SARS-like coronaviruses.

It’s the many independent lines of evidence all pointing in the same direction.

- Huanan Seafood Market epicenter
- detailed photographic evidence of live mammals being sold at the market (one of four markets with evidence of selling mammals in a city of 11 million people).
- genetic evidence implicating the virus and animals at the market at the same time, including species susceptible to coronaviruses
- positive virus samples in the market associated with mammalian vendors
- two spillover events based on phylogenetics (very damning evidence)
- both early lineages (A and B) found in early sampling, no intermediate haplotypes, suggesting animal to animal transmission
- characteristics of natural recombination in the viral genome (furin cleavage site is not genetically engineered)
- discovery of very closely related existing viruses, including some with spike proteins that bind HACE2 as good or better than sarscov2
- serological evidence that communities living in close proximity to bats are frequently infected with related coronaviruses
- no existing virus backbone in any database that could’ve been used
-about a dozen other things
