I taught my son son to drive unlike many who send their child to driving school.

With the gray hairs come some perspective for sure. Cool to see you still at it. I respect anyone's fitness goals. You look like you are in great shape and still enjoying life. That is a win all the way around. I am not a 'bodybuilder' by any stretch. Just always enjoyed weight training and the ability to put on mass was just something that I am blessed with. I notice with age I am losing a bit of mass. Have not been able to train very heavy in last few years after another spinal fracture. So quality of life and overall feeling good is what is important for me now.

But to respond to your thoughts, yes, I am totally aware how one can draw conclusions about a person and read meanings into things that might not be intentional. I have been misunderstood many times and it is one of the dangers of sharing passionate thoughts. Posts are very easy to read into. But I know I am the person I am, and people can take it or leave it. Those that know me in real life, and the people on here, know that I am here to celebrate everyone and root them on. I am the first to offer help, or step up and offer support to others. I feel bad that much of what is great about this forum has gone down hill, but I can only do me.

The cool thing is raising your kids to where you respect their decisions. She is a very smart girl and knows what is important to her. I respect her decisions. Pretty easy there.
The pedal box on the Lotus is very narrow. You cant drive it with wide shoes on. Wrestling shoes are just like driving shoes. Except most driving shoes are pretty expensive. You can buy a cheap pair of wrestling shoes for $70 and with as fast as he is growing, you wont feel bad if he grows out of them. But small shoes (either wrestling or driving) are a must in a manual car with a narrow pedal box. Plus you really need to be able to feel for heel/toe. Thick soled shoes are too clunky for that. Not sure if you drive a manual car, but put on a pair of wrestling shoes and see how much better the interface is.

I have never been a 'car guy' but lately I have been watching youtube videos from Vice Grip garage and other car fix it channels and I am really learning. I used to think cars...besides the basics like a brake or coolant change...were way beyond my level of fix it know how, but after watching guys take cars that have been sitting for 30 years with a locked up engine...and starting them up after an hour or 2? I realize it really a car's engine is pretty simple. Spark. Fire. Air.

So let’s hypothetically say OP is worth $50M

The kid better make it to $500M during his life because he has the benefit of having Op as a father

But IMO spoiling kids too much and giving them too much of a sense of security will prevent them from having their backs against the wall and will lead to mediocre outcomes because they have a safety blanket

Raising kids all comes down to a few things. Some of them, you have control over, others you do not. My experience has shown me, that our genes make us who we are. In many ways, they are some unknown combination of the mother and father, and in some ways unpredictable.

The old, nature vs nurture argument. I see it completely in my kids. VASTLY different in many ways, yet each taking different parts of my wife and I. In some cases, this is good. In others, it is challenging as hell!
So I think in many ways we are who we are at birth. SURE, your experiences shape you, but the fundamental person you are is so much predetermined at birth. I believe you can push the curve, but you cant re-write it.


The 'values' you have, are indeed affected by upbringing. You can (and should) put a lot of effort into leading by example what is to be valued in this world. That can make up for parts of personality that might lead to undesirable decision making as an example. Motivation and desire can be the thing that pushes the curve and helps your kids choose one path over another.


I feel very lucky to have raised two kids who put A LOT less value in money and material things than I did at their age. My kids could care less about what is popular, or 'valuable'. My son instead of wanting $300 sneakers, he ordered himself cow patterned shark flip flops that he got shipped directly from China. They were $12 and they are his favorite thing to wear. He was always a little different and marches to the beat of his own drum.


So besides the 'expensive' aspect of cars, you are also missing the life lesson side. We are building his car and have been for the past 8 months. It has been TONS of work. Often not very fun. Most of mechanical is done. So he and I have been grinding away at body work. Like the least fun thing ever. His job is trying to remove very old sunbaked PPF which comes off in 1cm pieces leaving full glue behind. It is HOURS of work removing it. But part of project is understanding that work will be hard also.

We just went yesterday and bought all the paint as well. We are going to paint it ourselves. All these are little lessons and how my sees my approach. I could pay someone to build the motor, rebuild the entire car, and then send it to someone to have the paint and body done. But no. He and I have touched every part on this car ourselves. It will be a project that only happened because WE did it. So on one side you might say that exposing him to these things is not good. On the other, you can argue that all of these experiences are life lessons for him. He has seen me buy and sell cars. Sometimes selling them because it makes financial sense vs what my impulse would want. He sees me make decisions on how I spend money.

We also educate our kids on being responsible. Something that was never done in my home. We start establishing their credit at 16 and explain to them the importance of the game and how you have to use it to build security in life. My daughter as soon as she can get her first job, will be starting her real estate investment directive (hopefully) will give her her own secure future. Same with my son. I hope to teach them how the use what they have to their best benifit.

I dont really do stocks. I have made most of my money in life investing in myself. Real estate is a huge part of that, and over the long term I think it is the best play for pretty much anyone. It is not sexy, or filled with the highs and lows of stock market, but couple the growth with the favorable tax benefits, it to me is a no-brainer. It however is something you have to allow time to do it's thing. I wish someone had taught me earlier, but that is the gift I will try to pass on to my kids. The ability to live a life independent from the ups and downs of being a rat in a maze.

I have watched my entire life of people who are 'in the matrix', and my goals are to teach my kids to see beyond that and live life on THEIR terms with their goals in mind.
