Love to help you think differently about this. Free yourself from the desire to compare yourself to others. I am in no way better than you. I have lived with more and less at times of my life. I found happiness when I had the least. True happiness is in the present. Not waiting for some day till you 'make it'.

I went 10 years driving nothing but a minivan and finally figured out 'stuff' is not the source of true fulfillment.

This trip is not about a car. But an opportunity to take an adventure with my son and make memories that will live on with us till I am gone. This could have been a camping trip or fishing. Does not have to be expensive.

My son and I have just grown to love cars. But it could be hiking. If I have anything of value to share it is that I have dedicated my life to my family and have no regrets. I try to always be a good friend even to those I just met. Sometimes that does not workout great, but others I make entirely new ones.

Great example I didn't initially share from this trip. The bank has screwed up the wire I sent and I was stressed because I am 34 hours from home and had to complete this transaction so I could load the car and go home.

I feel like the owner and I will become lifelong friend after this. We really connected when we met. He is almost my parents age and he my son and I really hit it off. He realized the bank issues and.knew they were not my fault. He just came over while I was trying to sort this out.ovwr the phone with my bank, out his hand on my shoulder and said "don't worry about this now". "Take the car home. When you get home, next week you can sort the payment issues out and send me the money". He said I don't even care if you just want to send me a personal check.

I was taken back and floored by this. He then went on to tell me some very nice things and said he could tell the man I was and told me to not worry and get back home to my wife. Feels good to make an impression like that on people. But I am just who I am and I greet the world and each day with everything it has to offer. Money is not the important part of the adventure.

He better! His braces just came.off. But yes, as a parent it is great to see the pure expression of joy in your kids. He is a really good kid with a great heart. Just proud as a parent of the young man he is becoming. Some might make assumptions about a kid raised with some nice stuff, but he is not affected by it in that way. Just a good hearted pure soul of a kid.

Glad you had such a great trip OP! Sucks that your son was too young to drive out there, but overall sounds like an amazing trip. You two have made memories together that will last a lifetime and that is what counts.

Your too funny. Here is the WHOLE story which I did not feel necessary to share...

He asked me to bring certified check. Which I did from a national bank. I gave him check the first day we qot there. He gave to his wife to deposit in her account at Wells Fargo. Check was in his name. His wifes account is in her name (with different last name). They have 7 accounts across that bank. So it is not as if they are not known to them. Wells flagged deposit.

She asked them to call the issuing bank and verify. They did and MY bank then would not release info citing customer security. She called me and I called banker. She said a month ago they instituted this policy so then I asked why she did not warn me when I asked for a certified check.....(didn't get a good response to that)

So Wells would not even deposit it now since it was flagged in their system.

So I am 34 hours from home and just asked him to give me the check back (after I called my banker to make sure I could refund the check once we got back). She confirmed that so luckily my wife had enough in her checking to do a wire for the funds. I called my wife and sent her the wiring instructions which she did 9am est.

The banker screwed up the wire, by putting the "sending beneficiary" as his wife and NOT my wife which it was coming out of her checking act. My wife did not catch mistake and wire went out.

That mistake got flagged by their outgoing.wire dept and the froze it.

So now I have funds tied up to pay for the car twice over and in limbo until I get back with check and.monday comes around so my wife can go in and have them fix improper info on outgoing wire.

I know....first world problems.....but that is what.happens as the banking
system has gotten so understaffed and so often it is hard to get in touch with a actual person to sort it out. Luckily I have a person I can call from my bank, but Wells gives them no such service (despite pretty sizeable funds in their bank). That is the reason I stopped banking with Wells 14 years ago. (Used to have all my business stuff with them when they were First Union, but merge was a mess and I moved on)

He knows I am good for.the funds so he said to go home with the car and we will sort out next week. I am very flattered that I made this impression on him. I like to think that I carry my self well and it feels good to have others put their faith in you. I think he and I will see each other soon again!

Going.to take.him up on the offer to come back out when my son is 18!

If you are into cars you may want to look into doing the dealers license in your state.

Fire your private banker. Mine would have flown out to me with a check in hand if that happened. I've never had problems like you discussed.
Dealer requirements are much more strict in my state. Dealership must be located in properly zoned areas. Public bathroom, secure file storage area and min space for public. Inspections randomly. I have a good friend who is a dealer so I know.

I would not want 'floor plan' financing. Very restrictive and geared for real car dealers. I don't buy things I don't have the cash for.... ESPECIALLY toys!

I have no desire to be a car dealer. Tough business. Plus I have learned long ago not to turn everything you love into a business. That is how I ended up in the helicopter business years back.

I just want to enjoy the fun without trying to pollute it with the idea of trying to make money from it.

But did you learn that nothing is more important than family?
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

5hrs from home! Just outside Knoxville TN. Last fuel stops.

Left Vegas 10am Friday and drove straight through. Should be pulling in 2am Sunday. What a crazy week.

Checked the trailer and all looks well back there. Car still tied down right ready for last leg home!

Just a fun follow up to this. Was totally off schedule after all that traveling. Car was pushed in garage and left.

I knew there was a fun car show this sat and I never really got to run the car, so I met up with some friends to roll over to it. I have a buddy who let me borrow a dealer tag. Car is not street legal, but having a dealer tag pretty much lets you drive anything on the road. Since my son now has a license, I also had him follow behind me.

We got 4 sets of slicks with the car. The 3 had 15 or so heat cycles on them and one new set. A heat cycle when you run the car and get heat in the tires. The tires on a car this light heat cycle out LONG before they wear out. After 15 or so heat cycles, grip starts falling off a bit, but they are still safe to run. Knowing I might want to bring it out someplace, I put on a older set of slicks.

This is really the first time I got to drive the car since I opted not to drive it out in Vegas. Fun little car for sure. VERY direct and planted. This will pull almost 2g's in corners so it is like nothing I have ever driven. I am SUPER excited to get out on track with it!

Anyway, fun time! Car has no radiator fans, so in the 90+ heat of the day I had to be careful about getting caught at lights, but it all worked out. Driving open cockpit was an experience for sure. Fun, but not something I would do often (without a helmet). Hard to drive this and take pics but I snapped a few.

Now it just has to sit for about 3 weeks and our first track day will be here! Cant even begin to try to enjoy a car like this on the street. (or any car really) Getting out to the track lets you push the boundaries in a place that is designed to do so. Since I started track driving my desire to drive 'crazy' on the street has gone down significantly. Pretty much I save it for the track these days.

Very nice.

That banking chit sounds like a nightmare and like something i have experienced.
2 banks merged and decided not to send the mortgage loan statement.
When requesting it be printed and sent again, they will not send it to the address on file without verification......... even though it is the same home address that it always has been.
fkn idiots.

Imagine being too poor to have it delivered to you.

"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Thanks man. I like it a lot. Its proportions are certainly a bit different. Open cockpit is really cool. But would not be practical for a street driven car. This will be the first open cockpit I have driven on track.

Funny how fast life will change. A few years ago, I would have laughed if you told me I would buy a race car. Now I have 2 in my garage. But that is the way things work out. Truthfully I dont even get as excited about driving my street cars. I have really been bitten by the track bug.

Yea, the whole thing pissed me off. Mainly because I had to stress my wife out. I am having her run around last minute on a friday and all for our stupid things we decide to do. She teaches piano and it means a lot to her. She canceled her afternoon lessons trying to help get this sorted. I feel really bad about it and my wife is super supportive of the crazy things we do. I feel bad I added stress to her over this, but in the end, she is great about it. I just dont want her to start to resent the car stuff. It should be fun and not add stress to life. When it starts adding too much stress, that is when you have to evaluate if it is really worth it.

You missed the part where this is MUCH more than just a car. It was also 3 garages worth of spares. Plus we were SUPPOSED to spend two days driving Spring Mountain while we were there. Just did not work out for us. But I dont have room for all the parts currently but luckily I specd a enclosed 2 car hauler to have built which came in last week. Currently it is filled with the spare parts. But I need to work over the next few weekends to organize space to find places to put all this stuff. Full extra carbon fiber body, spare motor, spare trans, suspension arms, axels, diffusers, under belly pans, exhausts, rotors, 4 sets of wheels and tires, extra coil overs', and on and on

Wire went out monday. (this time with all the correct info). Of course I paid him. I consider him a new friend. Hopefully we can pay him a visit in a few years and run the track out there.
