The best part is these bullies just cemented his views against them forever. And probably many others who hear the story. They just cant help themselves but to prove how weak and pathetic they are with the causes and rules they support and try to enforce.

As for the story, depends on dress code. I suspect the kid is doing it to get a rise out of people and I’m 100% positive the parents exploited it. I’m not overly sympathetic to anyone here.
I think I've got 3 or 4 posts ITT stating there's no dress code regarding patches...

Who gives a chit why the kids/parents doing it?Yeah the mom seems annoying. If the teacher wasnt a lunatic in the first place it wouldnt be an issue- how is this not entering your thought process?

I didn’t read the entire thread for I responded to your early post.

It matters because the details matter. This isn’t an abstract statement about political speech, it’s about a kid that looks like a grade A smart ass and his parents who are clearly in on a publicity stunt. Personally I’m glad the kid can wear the patch, but let’s not kid ourselves they are all loving the attention and victimhood.

I wrote that first part to Derplington, whom I quoted, not you...

So if the teacher didnt act like a loon, does the kid and mom get any attention? No. So who gives a chit about something completely irrelevant to the actual problem. The issue at hand here is whether we have teachers in schools that are mentally ill to the point they feel the need to violate a childs 1A because they cant deal with differing viewpoints.

I don’t really understand what this is all about to you. I posted a perfectly reasonable point of view. One echoed by a very conservative poster ITT I might add.

It’s also worth pointing out that the First Amendment is applied very differently in schools. Students don’t loose all their rights, but they can be curtailed.

“Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, 393 U.S. 503 (1969), was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court that defined First Amendment rights of students in U.S. public schools. The Tinker test, also known as the "substantial disruption" test, is still used by courts today to determine whether a school's interest to prevent disruption infringes upon students' First Amendment rights.“

“The Court ruled that First Amendment rights were not absolute, and could be withheld if there was a “carefully restricted circumstance.” Student speech that has the potential to cause disruption is not protected by Tinker.[8]”

Youre completely ignoring the mental condition of the teacher that would cause her to do this. Why people feel like their beliefs trounce constitutional rights. I'm being very clear about that in every post.

And I just told you that schools are different. Students don’t “shed their rights” but they are subject to restrictions. The antics of the student are relevant.

The antics of the teacher caused the problem, not the kid

She's a teacher who doesn't know her history and made herself look like an idiot

The kids missed his class because she was an idiot

The Governor even called her an idiot

So how exactly was this the kids fault?

The fact that you think I implied that you will be back in middle school with a patch on your backpack says a lot about the lunacy of people with your critical thought process and the confidence in which they say it.

What did the kids do wrong exactly? What were his 'antics'?

He was taken out of a class for no reason

The teacher, who you can't seem to criticize for any reason is 100% to blame because she's a liberal idiot

Go and read my post about the Tinker case in schools. Maybe follow the Wikipedia link, it’s not a great summary of law, but it will help. That is if you wish to understand - which I doubt you do. You want to sit around being outraged!!!!!

The behavior (what I called here “antics”) of the student matter - and in a different way than the teacher. Again, I’m glad he got to wear the flag patch. But maybe learn a little before you fire off in total ignorance again?

It's not in total ignorance, we're both attacking the root cause while you consider everything but.

There was no reason for this teacher to do that. The kid didn't wake up that morning planning these events.

There was no reason for this teacher to do that. The kid didn't wake up that morning planning these events.
You don’t know that. Apparently the kid also had firearm patches. The teacher may have been an ass, maybe not. I don’t know. I’m not taking a stance other than (1) I’m glad he can wear that flag as a patch, (2) I believe he was enjoying stirring things up and the parents ABSOLUTELY jumped on that, and (3) trying to inform people about Tinker (and a whole line of other cases following it) that actually do make it WELL settled law that disruptive speech is not protected in schools.

This is very very reasonable. The fact that seems like something for you to attack is very weird.

Lmao, the fact that you want to argue whether the kid was planning to "be disruptive" with a patch just goes to show you how entrenched you really are. Ok, let's play your game here.. the child was planning this events, how are we still not looking at the teacher to behave like an adult?

It's clear youre not watching the actual video which is asinine for you to be commenting. She goes into her reasoning of why he shouldnt be wearing the patch and youre telling me, "we dont know why." She states it has ties to slavery which is complete nonsense- when told it does not- she stays in her position.

Watch the video, you can see what her issue is. It's political. It would be the same lunacy if some teacher made a student remove a BLM or LGBT patch because it represented slavery.

It’s in the Tinker test re: if his speech is protected in school.

Once more, disruptive speech is not protected in schools. It doesn’t matter if the teacher was a moron or not. You seem to not like the law. Not my problem, nor is it anything I can do anything about.
