Only time I found lifting boring and tedious was when my T was low, srs.

Ever since I got my T corrected, lifting is great.

Get your T checked, srs

don't want validation that comes from autistic dedication to something that's mind numbingly boring. a lot of men have been cucked by feminism which now makes them jump through every hoop imaginable. when society was dominated by men, men weren't so vain...nowadays men are just as vain as women which equals profits for those making money money off male vanity.

i'd like to know more about the connection between t levels and finding repetitive picking up of metal plates fun. what's up with my grandfather's generation having higher t and laughing modern men out of the building for such silly vanity related pursuits?

The routine and simplicity suits many introverted, autistic and narcissistic folks. Which counts 99% of posters here.

Successful bodybuilding as a whole requires hyper routine and structure, including w/ diet (macro counting etc.). This sort of thing appeals to those on the spectrum.

It does require discipline, but this is a cope word, because it isn't so much the discipline that keeps you going - it's the discomfort and guilt from breaking the script of a strict routine (in the autist mind).

damn brother some keen insight here. my girl works with autistic kids and she was telling me how they need strict routine and things always done a certain way or they get angry/shut down. a kid she mentioned last night was like a stickler for rules and would tell on kids that didn't to everything the "right way" which got him beat up by some other kids. he didn't want them to get in trouble but it severely bothered him that things weren't done the way they were supposed to be done.

as you say, bodybuilding is right up the alley for those on the spectrum. strict adherence to working out a certain number of days -- often feeling negative if a day is missed. which body parts to do when. what people to watch and listen to. the plethora of reading about how to do it the right way. research on supplements...which do what...which ones to take. The strict (even if some say it's not) counting of macros, etc, etc.

of course in autistic mind it's all worth it and just what you have to do -- like the little boy having to tell on kids to because things have to be done a certain way.

You just don't question it too hard. You create a routine and then stick to it. Consistent routines do work to get results, that much is obvious.

But doing the same routine week-over-week, lifting weights up and down in the same environment, logging your exact calorie amount in MyFitnessPal... for 12+ hours per week (not to mention diet taking over your life), can't be questioned too hard intellectually. The majority of people genuinely don't care about the physique you've invested and sacrificed so much for. You'll get the odd fleeting compliment I guess. Taking OJ is another step, and simply feeding a body image disorder.

The physique you see in my avi - you have no idea how much time and dedication I put into achieving that. And I cut after that to get leaner. The enormous number of hours I had to dedicate to it, plus the hungry days and nights during cutting - there's no way it's worth it on any rational level.

A top 10% physique probably is worth it though. You could maintain that via running/sports/casual lifting (or a physical job) without counting anything or spending inordinate hours in the gym or making major sacrifices.

based.

do remember the chit lifestyle of being dedicated to it like that many years ago. and i agree top 10% with standards where they are...healthy, will take some work, but it will likely keep fitness fun and at a level you can aim to maintain for life...while likely avoiding injuries.

@OP

Considering your OG join date, I want to think you joined the forum because you were lifting or wanted to try it.

Do you still lift or have quit but still misc?

Or even from the start, you were bored with lifting?

I don't know your true intention but this thread turned out to be a good one.

Most of the posters ITT are good people who really enjoy their lifting life.

So in that sense, I want to commend you, Good Job.

It's all about finding the right balance for enjoyment.

One of the issues in bodybuilding I'm highlighting is that some folks aren't actually maximizing life pleasure, they're submitting to an obsessive habit at the cost of a well balanced life.

And there's a certain defensiveness in bodybuilding circles that if anyone even remotely questions it (e.g. why carry that tupperware around instead of chilling and eating nice food with friends) it's slammed as "jealousy" or "laziness" and the lifter condescending sneers at his friends thinking "those normies just aren't as disciplined as I am to make the necessary sacrifices".

thank you for the nice reply.

yeah i was kinda all in when I discovered this site and started lurking in my teens. that's just a young person for you. you'll do whatever it takes to "be somebody" and convince yourself you love the dedication in the process.

i do still lift some but to hell with all the regimented stuff. i much prefer biking, hiking trails, swimming and playing basketball over the monotony of repetitive lifting week after week. if i go in the weight area and it's crowded i'll jump on some machines without caring about what body part. maybe do some pull-ups and go for a walk. if i miss doing any lifting for a week or two so what?

i like the idea of casual fitness and enjoying it. love yourself and don't get fixated on needing to change anything (unless you're overweight and unhealthy).

i feel attacked. couldn't we just say "why do you care" to 97% of topics people bring up on the internet. what would be the fun in that? as someone with penchant for psychology i like fleshing out people's minds and their reasoning for doing what they do.

If lifting is boring to you, you probably don't have a good physique to begin with.

Only about 12% of the population regularly attends the gym, and they already looked good before they started lifting.

Sounds stupid actually. why do you need huge calves? your basically agreeing the repetitive lifting is boring but is worth it because you get huge calves.

good body, bad body...none of it makes repetitively lifting a piece of metal any more fun. the whole concept of dedication/grinding when it comes to lifting is basically people trying to will themselves to do something they know is mind-numbingly boring...because supposedly years or decades down the line they will be able to look at their body and think it was all worth it.

If you have good genes you don't have to grind or be consistent.
