There are two reasons why a guy in his 30s would not date an early/mid 20's girl - they dont want to and they dont have the ability to:
They Dont Have The Ability
-Most guys in their 30s are bald, fat, and an average career
-When you get older, its hard to find girls that are younger as your friend group is all 30+
-Girls your age are desperate (as are most guys in their 30s) so your friends typically set you up with girls your own age they know
-Its hard to make a good impression on girls friends/family when you are much older, they will question your motives
-Girls that age will sometimes have trouble committing to a guy much older and will always choose guys their age over you

-Its hard to relate to somebody 10 years younger, im almost 25 and a girl 10 years younger than me is just now entering high school
-Friends your age may be jealous over a younger girl, and their GFs/wifes will hate her because of her age/jealousy

Women almost always date up when seeking LTR. Especially post 25+ And without exception 30+.
Find an online dating profile of a women going younger it's almost always 10 years up range. Reason is simple, it's a biological drive to find a provider male who is more mature and established. This is usually older men.
Men almost never date up on other hand. It's usually 10 years below. Total opposite. Same reason, men are subconciosuly more attracted to women who are fertile and can hencebare children. It's a win win.
This is why women are more attracted to confidence in men than looks as it's a trait of maturity and provision. And men are by far more attracted to a women's glow and beauty which peaks much younger and is a sign of fertility.
I find its best to always date around your age range if you can. The crazy thing about aging is you don't notice it. Girls my age are about as attractive as they always were, assuming good health, and girls who are a decade younger suddenly look like children.

Because when you get to a certain point in your life, caring about a girl being a few years younger shouldn't be reason you are/aren't with her. There's pro's and cons. Yes, the girl that's 10 years younger might be hotter for now but you might endure a living hell (mentally and financially) as the cost.

You probably want someone who is where you are in life. In your 30's partying every night isn't what you're looking for. Maybe settle down and work on career and maybe marriage then kids in the near future. Chances of a 22 year old being into that are slim.

Women mature faster than men imo, being 30 n dating a 21 year old isn't even that wierd imo. Only thing is the whole instagram, snap chat generation is a bit annoying, but that isn't independent to young girls. Being 28 n soon 29 i don't find it wierd dating 21 year olds at all.

No level headed, normal, respectable, non gold digging, relatively independent woman is going is looking to meet some 35 year old when she is barely old enough to drink. The kinds of wome you will meet, include weirdo, unrespectable gold digging, dependant, non career oriented.
She will see you as a source of income more then as boyfriend/husband.
Trust me, I had the oppurtunity to play the field when I was finally making money (when my wife and I split up for a year, because I hadn't sowed enough oats) The amount of normal respectable women that you could actually marry is non existent. The kind of woman you want to marry doesn't date older dudes for money, because she already has a decent career and is hard working. That's why I threw in the towel and came crying home and married her as soon as I convinced her to take me back.. No regrets, yes I still look at other girls, but I know my wife is the GOAT.

the fact that she's in a program is in itself indicative that she's most likely intelligent, because dumbazzes don't get into doctorate programs too often
also i think when you're in your 30s dealing with some early 20s chick must be like grinding nails on a chalkboard, i'm 25 and dealing with girls who are 20 is nearly unbearable, can't imagine being 35 trying to pick up a 23 yr old chick to wife up lol.

I don't think it makes that big of a difference. There are super hot girls in their 30s and 20s and immature/mature girls at both ages. It just depends on the girl.
