I normally don't jump to defend police but after hearing his reasoning for doing what he did, i feel like he didn't overstep his bounds. Was he kind of rude? Maybe. Is it scary he unholstered his pistol? Yes, but he is on the lookout for a criminal who fits your description. He is looking for someone with a warrant out. Be thankful he wasn't rougher, srs. With all these stories about cops going HAM on civilians these days, you were lucky this guy had restraint.

I doubt the officer wants to be out on the side of the road in the summer heat any more than I do.
I'd be more surprised if an officer called up a dog squad than if he just respected my right to refuse searches and went back about his day. Most cops aren't out to get us IMO.

This is nothing new. A family friend is a cop and he pulls people over all the time and if he's suspicious he'll say they meet a description. Then he'll proceed to look for anything like backpacks, laptop bags, etc. in the vehicle and try to peek inside any gaps in the zippers to find drugs, etc. More often then not, it's in a shady neighborhood and he'll bust someone with lots of weed.

You should have said no, then if he hasn't already given you a ticket ask him if you are being detained or are free to go.
Then shut the fuark up.

But it would not surprise me if they got away with chit like that
Thought they had to be looking for something specific and have a reason (probable cause) to believe you might have that specific something
Cops usually ask to search your car when they have no grounds for probable cause, because if they did have grounds for probable cause they'd just search you without asking

Also, how is it that no one finds it disreputable that our laws are so unclear as to give cops nearly unlimited power that you cannot even look it when it is legal for them to conduct a search?

Like how does speeding lead to needing your car searched for drugs and illegal substances, everyone and their fuarking mom speeds.

Youre also within your legal rights to stay in your vehicle. He can ask you to step out for his safety or whatever but you're not legally obligated. However, this will lead to you being butt****ed by said cop.
