Highly doubtful that she knew the attacker. Rapes on jogging trails are fairly common and are usually crimes of opportunity committed by randoms.

If she's the attacker's first victim and he doesn't strike again, I don't see how they catch him unfortunately.

Yeh man, it definitely has me feeling some type of way thinking about if that was my daughter. I definitely don't hesitate to explain how overly protective me and my wife are of her( especially my wife since she's been molested when she was young).

Strong knowledge of the mafia. They generally don't target civilians, especially now with all the forensic technology. And for what? Breaking up with a guy? They care about making money and not making headlines. I know the area well, my GF's family is from there and I've been there many times. Where she was killed is a known hangout for homeless vagrants and that's who the police are questioning right now and whom they believe did this murder.

I'm from a town nearby to where this murder took place. We use to go and drink in those weeds in high school which is pretty crazy now looking back on it. You couldn't even see your hand in front of your face at nighttime. A few of my friends actually know this girl. Those weeds always freaked me out, I'm really surprised there is a jogging trail there.

Since there was a struggle and she was raped, there is a very good chance that she has the killer's DNA on her. If the guy has a history i.e. he was a registered sex offender in the past, then they should have his DNA on file and they should be able to match it to DNA evidence extracted at the crime scene.

Hopefully this is the case and they can catch the guy before he does it again.
