If you think you need AA meetings then by all means go. But prepare to spend every night of the rest of your life listening to a bunch of whiny sad sacks dwell on their past mistakes instead using all that time sitting there in those groups actually going out and doing something positive to improve themselves and their lives. I started lifting again and found a job at the same time I stopped going to their meetings so I didn't have much leisure time. But let me tell you something...going from being an alcoholic to a sober alcoholic will leave a huge hole in your life that has to be filled by something. If you don't fill it you will go back to drinking. I started cycling again and spend up to 20 hours a week on my bike in addition to taking care of a household that includes three young children so I have no free time.Get to the nearest AA meeting asap (srs) it may save your life.

Just fill that hole if you really want sobriety. Fill it like you're Peter North.

random thought after reading most of thread
what i find equally dangerous is just being exhausted behind the wheel. i've found myself doing late night travels and absolutely fighting to stay awake. you could be stone cold sober but you're still a danger to everyone if you're falling asleep. i'd rather pull over at a rest stop and take a nap for 20 min than fight to stay awake the rest of the trip home.

How about you cut the YOLO, party boy bull**** (even on new years) and show a little self respect and self control.
This WILL cost you around 6k one way or the other.
I'm sure this has been said a million times by this point but your stupid ass could have legitimately killed someone. You think your ****ed now? Imagine if the worst case scenario had occurred and you killed an innocent person because you wanted to party. Get your **** together. You can bounce back from this, it's just going to sting for a bit and hit the wallet hard.
You'll be alright at the end of this OP, just hang in there.

Dude if your lawyer told you that and this is yoiur first offense mty next question is are you or your parents paying for this attorney cause if yoiyoiur parents are they are telling him to tell the prosecutor to give you five days so you can learn a lesson and hopefully not make that mistake twice. Which sucks but is good cause they are trying to protect you. Sit them down and say mom dad just a night in jail scared me straight and I never want to go back. Cause if they are paying for the lawyer and you never never been in trouble this is what's going on. I promise you

EDIT - Read the thread.
You goofed. Luckily your state has mellow laws and you blew below 2.0 and didn't refuse.
Enjoy those 5 days in jail.
My advice is be proactive - get the evaluation tomorrow and get a jump on taking classes. Act like it was a one time **** up; don't say you drink every weekend, etc.

I have a friend that spent 10 days in jail for multiple DUIs and said it was the worst 10 days of his life. Said it felt like 10 weeks.
