I'd only have kids if I loved a girl and we both wanted them. And of course combined income >$150k to cover the cost of raising a child. Too many people these days on average incomes just having multiple kids for the government assistance, not because they actually WANT 3+ children.

100% understandable people don't want kids young and in todays times, society is changing and that's fine. However, chances are you're probably going to be lonely and want some company when you get to your 50s and older. Adoption is always a great choice at this point. Adopt some cool kid, spoil the hell out of him with all your saved up cash, watch him grow and die knowing you gave him a better life. Not a bad idea srs.

I'm not having kids because I got a vasectomy a while back when I was 21. For the record, population growth is exponential, the world wouldn't care a lot if one guy like me isn't having kids. Now factor in me having three other siblings, I can be used as a free time uncle to look after the kids.

By the time you are 40 you could most likely have over half a million stored away. Then have your kid, set up a massive trust fund so they can go to whatever college they want and enjoy life to the fullest. Personally for me If i ever have a child I want to provide an amazing existence for that child and every opportunity that they could possible have.
People saying you can't have kids that old (40) because you will be too old to play with them?? Like what??? If you are 45-50 years old and can't play with your children you are a sack of lazy chit who is probably fat as fuark. That is on you and your unhealthy ways.

I'm in a very similar situation as op with a similar view. We did everything right planning on wanting to have kids some day but the desire just isn't there. We're getting more enjoyment from traveling and going out on the weekends. If we had a kid we could certainly handle it, but why not just do what makes you happy?
Thousands of years ago people didn't live long so it was advantageous to multiply as fast as possible. Kids were assets. Now they need to spend the first third of their life just learning how to contribute to our advanced society.

I would have had my kids at 28 or 29 if things had gone as planned but meh. But having children at the peak of your career development also has results on career potential, earnings potential
It's all statistics. You make your choices and play your cards. Life doesn't hang on whether you, individually, procreate.
Too many people make abysmal parents for it not to be a valid choice not to have them.
I think the thing to think about is how you picture yourself at 60 or 70 looking back. If you'd be happy with the picture of never having had kids, you're probably on the right path.
I never wanted kids in my 20s but at a certain stage of success and repetition of the same business and social cycles life felt a bit empty and it became the next challenge, the next way to throw it all up in the air and experience something new then it became a need.
Looking back, I don't regret a single moment. You get life stages so you can experience life, personally I'd hate to miss out on something as fundamental as parenting

Kids cost alot of money, take alot of time and patience, and you will get your hands dirty. But they light up your world like you never thought possible. The worlds over populated but it can be a chance to teach them YOUR values and lessons so that once we're gone and the older generations, maybe things can work out. As for not being able to accomplish things in life, I've seen 70 year olds climb the tallest mountains. You can travel and do stuff anytime in life so long as you stay active and eat right. But end of the day choice is yours. The road is a long one either way

You probably have sub par genes anyway so no real loss. But I kinda feel the same. Although you'll probably regret not having them when you're older and literally have nothing to look forward to in life. Imagine being 50 and childless. What the fuk do you live for?

According to a few articles raising a child to 18 cost approximately $400,000AUD, which equals about $22k per year.
For every year you don't have kids you could retire and travel a continent for 6 months every year.

My wife and I will be married 5 years in July. I'm 30 and she's 29. Neither of us ever truly wanted them, and as the years go by we are getting closer to officially making the decision to get my nuts clipped. Not 100% yet. Still thinking we'll give it a few years before we make it official.
The truth is we love our life. We love being free to do whatever we want and the thought of being tied down by a child at this moment doesn't outweigh the benefits of having a Kid. We still have so much we want to accomplish and things we want to experience.
I'm not saying people with children aren't happy or don't get to enjoy their life. That's just crazy. What I am saying is that for what we want out of life, children just get in the way of that for us.
I know what society says about how people should live and the natural life cycle but frankly, we don't care. As selfish as this sounds we just want to make ourselves happy, not our parents or siblings.
Another part is I'm kind of scared to be a father. I know I'd do my best to be a great father but having a child that turns out to be a scumbag would suck. Or a Whore for a daughter.
Sure we'll miss out on some cool things in life, taking kids trick or treating, reading books to them, watching them play sports, but for us, those things don't overcome the joy we get from being free from that massive responsibility.
Any other young married couples out there on the same page as us??

Any of you myopic goons ever been in or worked in any sort of senior citizen/assisted living homes?
The whole "It'll be nice to have someone to look after and take care of you when you're old" is a fantasy. Your children will be in the prime of their lives, probably far away, in the midst of their careers, and too busy dealing with their own sht to be with you.
They might spare you a few hours each years because they feel bad/obligated, but don't think they really want to

Same as OP although younger , I am undecided of making that decision. GF said she wants kids I do as well but at the same time I don't 50/50 always when it comes to that can't make up my mind. So I'll give it more time maybe that will help clear things up .
