Stop giving terrible advice and learn from what works.
Watch the video, the suspect was apprehended...alive. That's a success. A concept U.S. law enforcement seems to have an issue with.

What's apples to apples in your mind? US compared to UK? UK doesn't have near the issue of violent crime or drug trade as the US.
I figured you're comparing policing standards to other nations' policing standards. In other nations, cops might take you into an alley and put a bullet in your head if they feel like it.

I've had other cops tell me horror stories of police putting weapons at their head. I don't know where your perspective come from, but police are suppose to be the protectors of the people.

- It doesn't work to well here in the US because people have the right to gun ownership.
- In the UK there isn't any of that, so If the cops are the only one with guns, well there you go

I'd imagine UK cops find themselves in situations where a firearm needs to be drawn far less than cops in the US do. Americans need to take that into consideration.
Still, it's better to be prepared for any scenario despite the likelihood of it occurring. Even the local police in Switzerland are armed and it's like the safest country on earth ffs.

Cliffs:
Cue Benny Hill theme before watching vid
Feel bad for the LEO of the UK who deal with that
Takes 10 cops to deal with one nut with a knife
Can't fathom justification for it.
Is that what people in the UK think cops should have to do? Be chased around by some nut with a knife like hapless idiots?
In the US, those first steps he takes toward them he would have been burned down from lead poisoning. I truly can't believe anyone in the UK or other low T euro countries is OK seeing that yet make any comments about US police. In the US, don't need 10 cops to deal with some POS like that, just one is needed.
* = RIP officer and those killed with the assault car.
** = After emerging from the vehicle, the attacker stabbed a police officer to death in this recent event. What stopped him? A body guard for a politician with a gun...

It's pointless in my eyes to use violent crime stats alone in this argument, but we can all agree that cops executing people on the spot is wrong and in the US it happens almost never.

Grats to you and USA and shame on all the "low T euro countries" for not having such amazing LEO.

Of course the flip side of the argument is that your cops are militarized and scared chit-less of your armed populace. They are also doing the job of psychologist, councilor, sheriff, and solider... with insufficient training. Hence all the tear gassing, excessive forcing, shooting, and killing of disabled, innocents, minorities, or just about anyone who can be perceived as "not complying". Definitely a model for all of us: shoot first, then let the prison system sort 'em out.

And the officers who arent justified should be held accountable. So lets not protect the thousands of law enforcement for the mistake of 2 or 3. And it only protects the officer? What? Lol, never going to see eye to eye on this. How many officer deaths or civilian deaths will it take to make it statistically acceptable to carry a firearm?

Do people realize that the fat, stupid, out of shape, worthless cops are employed because of LIBERALS?
I'd be fine with having extremely tough standards to become an officer. I think it would lead to better pay, better working conditions, and more respect from the community.
It's a public sector job so that can't happen and it's only getting worse. They're even taking steps to make promotional processes 100% subjective. They're going to pick and choose who they want to make the department look good to the community from a shallow perspective.
Lib cry babies have caused this. Thanks.

Aussie cop I know looked at the vid and said:
"I can't speak for Canada but that video is just as cringe inducing for me to watch. It would be a gun day in all Australian jurisdictions. Having firearms also negates the need to get so close to someone armed with an edged weapon which allows for easier containment, negotiating and waiting for specialists to arrive."
