The misc has been dead for a long time now. The golden years of 2007-2012 are long gone.
We had truly epic posters here, and OP is right, unless a thread was epic it wasn't going to stay on the first page for more than a few seconds.

These days the misc is more like kindergarten misc, the teen misc sub-forum hosts older crowed than the misc does now.

Influx of arseholes, little kids and moderation mistakes (not necessarily by current mods) imo are responsible to what this board has become.

Imo it has been on a decline since around 2013, I'm sure some will claim it happened many years before, but in terms of activity at least, it feels as if there was a slow decline starting around then. It didn't speed up until 2016/2017 where I feel at this point its rapidly declining.

Whoever said Reddit is to blame I believe is spot on. Reddit has a chitton of users and activity, and a venue for essentially any point of view. Moderation is also waaay less strict. Since bodybuilding.com is the website of a business first and foremost, moderation will always be stricter, which in the long run will kill the site when compared to something like reddit.

I remember back in the day I had the feeling that if we were good posters and contributed to the site in a wide variety of ways, the mods would respect us enough and give us some lee-way in posting things that were more controversial. As long as you were tying to talk about the truth and say interesting stuff or edgy jokes you could take some risks in the spirit of the misc brotherhood of laughs and truth and freedom.

These days that feeling is gone. I no longer feel safe to say or post interesting things or concept threads or jokes or be jokingly aggressive with posters for fun to simulate that kind of barbershop feel between bros where we are edgy.

Now its not safe because it feels like the mods see us as a burden and children they have to babysit to not give their main website brand a bad name.

That little lack of love is what makes it different IMO.

Im scared to fail therefore I don't even try to succeed kind of thing.

Why should I, or any of us, try to be entertaining or famous if getting attention leads to getting banned?

In a way we are all like contractors who provide free content here and they act like they don't "need us" and then over time it went from like 50,000 people a day to like 5,000 ppl.

The problem is nobody really is keeping the mods accountable. I recently got banned because I wrote this nuanced intelligent essay about how jews in the media use race bait to get rating and got an overly long ban for being "racist" even though it was a well written, fair and insightful essay talking about how that racism exists? This is like peppered in amongst many various post of all different non-controversial topics.

But the reading comprehension was misconstrued, and he banned me.

I didn't feel like anyone would even care to do something about it.

So what is my course now? Just don't say anything unsafe, nothing controversial, nothing edgy.

Nothing interesting anymore, right?

Its psychologically eroding away at the very point of talking about stuff that interests us.

Someone getting banned should be like a critical last resort thing. Mods don't realize the compound implications of banning for unfair reasons, they think its like a drop in the ocean and nobody will notice.

Banning someone should be sacred but its not. Quality posters who are balance should get the benefit of the doubt but they don't.

Unless we post really crazy bad stuff don't ban us. Let this place get more messy and creative and explorative again stop censoring our freedoms because it will compound.

Same thing happened a few years ago. Mods got super strict, in a 2 year span the place had like half the traffic, thy went more lax, but now things are weird again. Noticed that bolobrah guy got banned for example during that troll thread. No explanation, right in the middle of providing cheeky lols. Its like some people don't get the dry humor, but have power over us. But they are not like us.

There is no more growth without freedom.
