it really makes lot more sense if u learn a basic overview of stoic philosophy first, helps u understand what he's talking about since it was just his personal journal so it jumps around with his random thoughts and not explaining for other ppl to understand, misc stoicism thread has some more info:https://forum.obnoxiousbrutes.com/showt...hp?t=173954741

also helps if u r using one of the modern translations that r easier to understand, the old ones with all the thees and thous etc r more confusing

I'm halfway done negging everyone itt who mentioned How to Win Friends and Influence People. If you need 300 pages to tell you to smile and not be an ass you're not gonna make it. It's well known Carnegie was a self-serving con artist. As an avid reader it is the #1 worst book I've ever read.

i love reading, but most of these self help books are stupid af:
-meditations by marcus aurelius was incoherent ramblings(literally so), most ideas in the book were unorganized without any prose therefore i didn't find any significant value by reading it
-how to gain friends and influence people was seriously really basic, the entire book read i was thinking "moon lands on man"

i read a few other of those self help books and decided no more, srs. good, well written prose trumps any of that chit any day of the week

in regards to ITT, the few books that really left me reeling after reading them were:
*A river runs through it - the main story had me real good, story about brothers that really hit home since I love my brother
*Stoner - this one just killed me. really makes you rage and wonder how can anyone supplicate other people and coast through life on auto pilot, taking chit from anyone who'll give it

[img]https://media.giphy.com/media/L8XuphFGqlSfe/giphy.gif[/mg]
It's pretty much only you and the guy that only makes dink jokes that consider it a good book. The majority of the people itt agree How to Win Friends is for legit autists and Mediations is a bunch of incoherent ramblings. You probably have an associates in dairy husbandry from Boise State and try to convince people you're some sort of intellectual or philosopher cause you read 2 books.

Blows my mind how a no-avi from fuking Idaho can post my avi and location but then again you might be the brightest person in that God forsaken state.

The Myth of Freedom and the Way of Meditation.

It's a Buddhist book, but if you aren't familiar with Buddhism, it may shock you how much of it is just describing life for literally everyone. You may be a Buddhist without even knowing it.

Leaders Eat Last - Simon Sinek
Ego is the Enemy - Ryan Holiday
Subtle Art of not giving a **** - Mark Manson

All those three books completely changed my way of thinking.
Much better, nicer , and more selfless person because of them.

I'd also suggest TheMinimalists website.

"The 48 Laws of Power" - Robert Greene (1998)

Using inspiration from thousands of years of conquest, domination, and rule from history's most fearless/successful leaders, this book will give you insight to learn how to play life's "game".

Also in regards to women you can read any Abrahamic religion or philosopher, they're spot on.

In terms of politics I'd say the following are must reads:
Culture Of Critique
The Dark Enlightenment Nick Land
How Dawkins Got Pwned
The Righteous Mind
Anything by Ha Joon Chang, Milton Friedman, Adam Smith

That's obviously hyperbole, but if you took them and compared them today's worldview about women, they're much more closer to the truth.
