There are a lot of signs that this may be just another day at the office for them.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.

Having everyone do combat sports sort of defeats the purpose.
I did boxing as a hobby all throughout my 20s. But that's because I was a huge boxing and MMA fan. It was for my enjoyment and self-improvement and not to try to become a tough guy or learn self-defense. Honestly, I don't think it's for everyone. Most of the people who start usually quit within a month or two.
I do agree though that it's pinnacle of manly activity. Certainly more so than simply picking up weights and putting them back down, which is why I'm doing that now that I'm in my 30s instead of boxing. It's a lot easier.

Rugby is actually worse in many ways as you guys wear no protective gear. That's a terrible idea. I played rugby growing up and had my share of concussions. Even now I feel its affects though I am only in my 30s. At times I find myself lost in thought and unable to complete sentences. I definitely feel something off about my self. Combat sports would probably be much worse. I know I would never send my kids to do that kind of stuff when their brains are still forming. Minimal or no contact sports are the way. I don't want my kids to have future problems down the road. It is scary srs.

You're only backtracking because people who read what I wrote understand the point I made. If you still try to argue about the fighting ability discrepancy between you and a trained fighter, which I dint even touch on in the OP, so ahead and go to a boxing/mma/muay thai gym, sign a waiver and ask to spar. Most of them will let you. But please record and post a video so we can all laugh

I'm too intimidated to try combat sports. Bout to be 27 yrs old, played video games all my life, never played any sports, last fight I had was 15 years ago in elementary got beat and never fought from then on.
The responses ITT are dumb. Last week another miscer made a similar thread and everyone agreed.

anyway the op is right anyway. if you're too scared to spar, then you can just try it for fitness/cardio. you'll still know how to properly punch, how to put your weight on your punches, defense while on offense etc.

I grew up in Long Beach California. I lived in the hood for a long time and saw dudes get beat down constantly.
I was constantly in fights as a kid, got my lip busted, eyebrow split. Around age 13/14 I started boxing. Did it until about age 22/23 on and off. I never felt the need to fight once I started boxing. I don't have anything to prove, their are out there I can bang with and dudes i can't.
Hopefully I won't have a neccessity to fight on the street.
Bjj seems fun. Might try that

Easily the dumbest thing i have read in this thread. I can agree with OP I think kids or even adults should learn basics ot defend themselves.
What is wrong with that? It should be a part of gym class instead of learning about volleyball or something spend 2 weeks or so on basic self defense.

I'm almost 30 and have never been in a confrontation outside of football/rugby. You don't need to know how to fight or how to shoot a gun, you just need to be smart about the situations you put yourself in. That being said, I love to shoot and would take up a class on fighting had I the time or location that offered one, but it's low on the to-do list when you have a family and you're not a teenager.

Wrestled and Judo from middle school to end of Highschool, BJJ for a few years but I decided it was stupid expensive so I quit going.
I liked how I was a bit more limber and some of the things they taught me. I've never really been in a real fight after the age of 18 tho.
It's easier to just not be a drunk chithead and get along with people. Most people adults aren't gonna fight you over a disagreement unless you're on that poverty time I guess.
