Can you still pull your annual credit report if you freeze all 3 bureaus? Thanks.

do NOT sign up for any of their "services", don't be fooled, that "you waive your right to file a lawsuit against us" type language is always hidden in the fine print (despite what Equifax has claimed recently)

they are not to be trusted, don't sign ANYTHING unless you have thoroughly read the terms/conditions (and *especially* that small fine print on the bottom or back of the page)

i've had at least 2 people i know sign up for their "free" service recently and sure enough, in the fine print the lawsuit-waiver language is still there.... so much for them saying "don't worry about the language, we'll take it out"

i don't trust them, not signing anything through their supposed "website" or signing up for any of their "services"

Yes. I froze the them this afternoon and ran my credit report about 15 min afterwards.

The Transunion report actually showed my credit was on freeze FWIW.

Since the breach, the now retired [Susan] Mauldin's internet presence has begun to disappear. A podcast interview with her was taken down and her LinkedIn profile, which archival copies of showed the former chief security officer studied music composition in college and had no security degree, had the last name changed to "M." and was set to private.

I'm not investing a huge amount of energy into freezing. If I can just flick a switch online for free to lock my report, I'll do it though.

Can someone explain what locking does specifically?

It just eliminates the ability for a "NEW" credit line to be opened in your name correct?

Yeah, prevents issues with background checks. Even then its going to cause issue with background checks for employment when they have to ask "why did you have to freeze all credit reports?" Then you have to explain, but what backlash will this have on ones credit.....

- Ok do nothing, that's your choice
- The world won't end, but if they go in raw on you, your world won't be a pleasant place to be living for a few months, if not years (your credit is everything)
- Hacks like these are target at specific people. The goal is to get info on as many people as they can. The more people they have available to them to fawk over the more money and loger they can keep up their fawking.
- Don't think the payoff will be that large

You can call it overreacting but I would rather overreaction and make sure I'm not going to get fawked then do nothing at all. For some, freezing your credit isn't that big of a process and fairly easy. Yes for some it's seems to be a bit harder

Should be an easy explanation... I froze it due to the Equifax leak...

Why would it have any affect on your score though? All your existing lines would stay open and be functional.

lol you what mate, why do you have to explain anything - you unblock them in advance of any background check or application

No backlash at all on ones credit. Your credit score will "behave" as normal.

My advice to you is to file your tax return as soon as you have all the documents you need next year. If you don't, you may be shocked to find out someone already filed a tax return for you.

You think a human is manually writing your score? It's algorithmic based.....

So lets say a hacker did get a loan into your name.....the time it would take to 1) Find out it wasnt you 2) Get debts settled 3) Make your credit back to normal........if you tried to obtain any credit anytime soon......its all still there.

Nothing....nothing gets wiped from your credit. They(creditors/lenders) just look at active and then X years inactive.

confused here but I'll try to answer

- yes it is algorithmic based. Who said anything about manually writing your score?

- Look into what happens when you become a victim of identity theft. It's not as easy as you're thinking to get everything back to normal.

- You're credit behaves like normal. Freezing your credit doesn't make it inactive, it just prevents someone from opening new loans or credit cards under your name.
