Lefty here, just learn to shoot both sides. Will take a little while but makes it cheaper in the long run and you are better at weapon manipulation which is something 75% of shooters suck at as they get tied to one way of doing everything.

Damn....I guess it's even worse than I realized.

Any other suggestions besides mimi-14 you guys can give me so I can do my homework? I use my XD9 for home defense, so this rifle will just be for enjoyment at the range - should I go bolt action for my first long gun?

The 'full auto convert' part, that's not a thing.

And no, that definitely isn't enough to make it CA legal.

If you just want a long range gun for enjoyment shooting then a bolt gun will be easy to get into and you won't have to participate in any kind of heresy.

This. Bolt action firearms are accurate and reliable. You can find them in a multitude of different calibers too

Could be, but even if they aren't gone, it's not an issue at all to hold the bolt back an inch or whatever. I mean, lots of these things get stored with the bolt locked open even.

And it's not like an action spring is expensive or difficult to replace however many years down the road

Note the grab a gun guys...good retailer, buy with confidence

Hey OP, a couple years ago I bought an Adams Arms complete upper because I liked the idea of a piston system. Unfortunately, I never finished the darn thing! Do you know any deals on complete lowers that have a decent trigger and stock? Budget would be around $250-300 for something good. Thank you!

Sorry forgot to mention I also need a charging handle and dust cover.

Go here: buy your lower, a buffer tube kit, a lower parts kit, and a charging handle,http://www.schuylerarmsco.com/manufa...on-993?&page=1

Go here and buy a Geissele Trigger
https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...19010/redirect

And a dust cover:
https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...port_cover_kit

Go here and buy a B5 stock.
https://grabagun.com/b5-systems-brav...-spec-blk.html

Together you're looking at $340 for the lower and $30 for the charging handle and dust cover. Putting it together yourself is the only way to get down to that price point.

Here's a relatively budget AR I put together last year. Painted it a few days ago.

PSA 16" CHF Mid-length 5.56 NATO 1:7 Upper (FN stamped barrel)
PSA Premium BCG
Sopmod Enhanced Stock
Spikes ST-T2 buffer
BCM polished trigger group
BCM grip
Trijicon MRO on Larue 1/3 QD mount

This was an intended budget 'nice' AR. Put it together for right around $575-$600, then another $500 for the optic.

For paint, it's all Aervoe, did a base of Earth Yellow, and Earth Red.

On top the brown is Drab, and then Olive Drab. Was just a quick go, didn't give anything time to dry, didn't take my time, didn't really give a fawk.

k peace out bye
