.
.
You can say they were all throwing heavy rocks, but maybe this one kid timed it to specifically kill. Obviously the other kids didn't, as their rocks didn't kill schit and it was obvious who's rock caused the death.
Sorry for bringing up snowballs again but if I throw a snowball at an unwilling bystander, it wizzes by the bystanders head, and the bystander walks away unscathed, perhaps not even knowing how close to death or serious injury he was, an then another unwilling bystander comes walking by and my friend winds up and throws a fastball right at the person's head, drops him on the spot and kills him, am I going to jail for manslaughter too?
Don't think so Jeff.
But we both engaged in illegal activity.
We both knew there were risks of injury and potentially even death.
So why shouldn't I be charged with manslaughter too?

They deserve to be buried under the prison, but they won't be because they're juveniles and will get something like 10 years.

Again though, the snowball death is a freak accident, so it's a useless parallel. I'll turn it around on you this way though, if a group of friends rape your mom, but one of them only watches, should he also be punished?
And what the fuk at your rape example?
Should be some case law of what happens to spectators of rapes. But talk about an even more useless parallel lol.
One is a personal, visceral, directed attack with intent to specifically cause physical and emotional harm.
The other is a random, dangerous high stakes gamble with potenetial to cause physical harm and potential to be completely harmless.
Both are crimes of thrill though I will allow that parallel to be drawn.
Here is another example:
A group 4 friends get highly intoxicated at a bar and when it closes, they drive home in a single car. Their drive is 60 minutes to get home and each friend is so drunk they can only drive 15 mins at a time. They each take turns and the first three drivers get into a lot of close calls with oncoming traffic, nearly hitting a minivan and a schoolbus, etc.
They are all well aware what they are doing is potentially dangerous, but could turn out to be potentially harmless.
Finally the 4th friend gets into the drivers seat on the final leg, and kills an unsuspecting pedestrian legally crossing the street at a crosswalk.
Should all 4 drunks be charged for manslaughter? Some of them might have even been drunker and driving faster on their drives (ie. throwing more rocks, throwing heavier rocks), yet they didn't kill anyone.
4x manslaughter or nah?

they threw a six pound rock off a bridge at a fast moving car? And threw upwards of 20 lbs rocks at cars?

Do all the kids throwing snowballs get charged with murder?
There are strict, known rules against throwing snowballs. Snowballs are known to be dangerous and can and have killed people. People walking to and from classes at school can have a reasonable expectation to be safe from getting hit in the head from a snowball.
Just because one kid took it to the next level and aimed for the head of an innocent bystander, perhaps packing the snow harder so it's like ice and making it denser and weigh more, winding up and using more power with their arm doesn't mean the other kids should be charged with murder.
Maybe the other kids threw snowballs at the bystander. Maybe they purposefully missed and maybe they aimed at less lethal spots on the body.
He who chucked it and caused the damage should be responsible.
Just playing devils advocate, but I'm sure there are stricter rules involved with throwing stuff off overpasses, perhaps even a felony, and if you are part of a group where one person commits a felony resulting in someones death, the entire group is culpable ie. getaway driver in a fatal robbery still gets murder even though they didn't kill anyone.

That likely isn't what happens in reality if a situation like that unfolds. Likely, the driver at the time who hit the pedestrian is charged with vehicular manslaughter, and the other 3 probably go home and sleep in their beds that night. All that matters in a case of vehicular manslaughter is who was driving at the time of the accident, even though the 3 others drove drunk (threw rocks), were drunker (threw heavier rocks) and drove faster (threw more rocks).
