Personally I don't care that they're casting a woman as Indiana Jones, the movie's been dead for a while now.

It's not about casting women in men's roles in movies, it's about putting "unfit" women in IRL roles over qualified men, because they happen to be women.

It wouldn't be literally turning Indiana Jones into a female, it would be like Indiana Jones retiring and passing the torch to a successor. Change sucks, but who cares if the successor is male or female

Why must every established character be replaced ffs? Some have already mentioned why not introduce a new character, which is a much better alternative. I would much rather have a female who followed in the footsteps of a character like Indiana, and chartered her own course instead of replacing everyone with the opposite sex. This goes both ways too, I wouldn't want good female characters to suddenly turn male in next installments either.

I’m kinda over the whole race/ sex bait thing in movies. They know it’ll be controversial so it’ll bring viewers. If it’s good, great, if not, it’s not because it’s a woman it’s because the director or writers suck

Harrison Ford needs to bow out eventually, and they'd probably do a movie with both Ford and the new female Indiana together where Ford sets the stage for the successor to take over. They already tried it in Crystal Skull with Shia LeBeouf, but it seems that's not working

Marvel also has lots of cool black characters who haven't been utilized yet. Blade is a cult hit just collecting dust and I'm crossing my fingers that someone gets the idea for a Cardiac movie.
A lot of the race/gender changers to established or iconic characters is only temporary and ironically enough merely serves as a knee jerk/reactionary response to a long standing issue, they want to piggyback on the legacy and awareness of the original figure but ultimately even if there wasn't all this uproar from the likes of the misc it's still only temporary. Even if there was Idris Elba as a black James Bond no way would the next James Bond after that not be a Caucasian male, the status quo would remain the same and although it's kinda funny to see how triggered the misc gets over it ultimately doesn't solve the lack of original and popular female/non-white popular characters. It'd be interesting to see given the success of the Marvel movies whether Nick Fury will remain a black man as the new status quo 20 odd years from now (I know he was originally white).

For more minor characters especially in comic books unless the change to the character's race/gender is permanent it's really just a token gesture with no real potential to grow further and develop.

I don't really follow Marvel much but I'm sure Thor has returned to being a man despite the brief period he was a woman (or is he still a woman? idk).

They did it with star wars and it worked. Went from a western style buddy flick save the damsel in distress, with the clean cut white boy star and the more mature white gunslinger sidekick to what?

Princess saves gay black stormtrooper, who is in love with gay swarthy pilot guy,who basically does nothing but fly around once in a while, looking like a twink and being outsmarted by lesbians most of the time.

There is no striaght white hero for little boys to even look up to. But it's still selling tickets to the next generation of disneyfied soy boys.
