Strength minimums like repping 225 for some reps isn’t an unbalanced approach. If you’re lifting weights, not super old, that should be a goal to attain. Lifting weights in general should carry some kind of goal - rep wise.

Most compounds should have some kind of minimum goal. It’ll help as you get into old age - so you can at least somewhat pick yourself up.

My .02 cents

Deathguard, does anyone on this forum have a stronger bench than you right now? I'd love to see some others posting videos, and I'm genuinely curious who has the best numbers with video proof.
I would say the only regular posters that might have a legitimately stronger bench would be either Jestbrah or Smillirons (think I got the names right, one is a jacked AF bodybuilder and the other is the giant manmore+++ cattle rancher brah). Those and OP are definitely the top 3 right now I believe.

I struggle with 315 so probably never. I never had the urge to be a good bencher, hell I barely barbell bench now, mostly dumbell flat/incline.

I've known a few 405+ benchers, they were all built like tanks and took training seriously. Majority of gym goers will never hit that number despite most guys working chest 2+ days a week.

Any bench kings care to share their 405+ milestones?

Why would I wanna be 300lbs? Lmao. Just to bench 5 plates. No thanks. Do it at a functional weight (sub 220) and then we can talk

Good stuff. Bench is one of my favorite lifts but I'm just now getting back into it with okay natty numbers after laying off heavy because of herniated discs.
He has posted vids on here, I don't remember the exact numbers but he has a very legit bench, pretty sure he was close grip repping 405 in one vid iirc.

If you can't do it natty it don't count.

Might as well be using a slingshot or bands or three spotters.

Yeah it's possible. I work with a guy who was a pro offensive lineman for a while. Probably 330 pounds but he could bench well over 500 and go 405x12. But he is build for bench. Short arms, giant ribcage and not lean. Strong dude though...

I recently saw him rep 315x12 despite not being in the gym for nearly a year.

Been chasing 405 for the past ~4 years (with a realistic aspiration of getting there), and Everytime I get some kind of a pec strain or other shoulder/chest injury. Back to grind tho, hoping to hit it within the next 5 months, December ideally, but that might be a reach.
Was in same boat, now focusing on strongman(OHP) so not benching anymore but facepulls and dead hangs are really helping my shoulders stay healthy.
