At least in the US, she’s the person they’re putting in front of the cameras. You can be sure most of the people involved don’t want the public attention in the first place, and they certainly wouldn’t be getting up on a stage to give a TED Talk about the project. They probably just want to be recognized within their circles.

And to this researcher’s credit, she’s taking every opportunity to mention the collaborative nature of this work and how she’s one cog in the machine. The fact remains that a 20-something MIT grad contributing significantly to one of the biggest scientific moments in history is the makings of a compelling story. And media/news is in the business of telling compelling stories.



It’s probably also worth mentioning that the media/news sites were surely cognizant of the expected response to pushing a female researcher into the limelight and are capitalizing on angry guys spreading the word

Here's an interesting thing. If we had a quantum lens and pointed it straight at the heart of a black hole, you'd get something staring back at you! When I astral projected into the heart of our galaxy's super massive black hole for the very first time, here is what I saw. A giant white hand with a dish or saucer shaped plate on the palm, spinning very fast. What looked like matter being drawn inwards and then rapidly expanding outwards, being shot out in different directions. Lots of light and energy activity.
