I was in Costa Rica in July and August last year and the rain isn’t a huge deal. Stayed in Manuel Antonio in this really nice hotel called makanda by the sea (took a little bitty with me), and went on a waterfall jumping tour and private charter for sport fish. Scariest part was flying in a prop plane through the mountains and landing legit in a grass field. Quepos is pretty cool too and a good mix of locals and visitors, but it’s a 3-4 hour drive from San Jose airport (take a taxi that has WiFi its only 100 bucks), or fly down which cost like 50 bucks. I recommend to drive back as I’ve had those prop planes that take off from fields cancel on me last minute and almost missed my flight back to the states.

Dominican Republic is always a hit. Punta Cana for sure .. year round. Stay at the hard rock.. tons of women. They have golf carts to rent for cheap and it’s very much worth it.

Let me know when you are going, can get yucky with the boys!

That's irrelevant. Every level of society in Mexico is inundated with cartel related corruption. They've murdered innocent travelers, had gladiatorial fights with random people on buses, killed reporters, politicians, mayors, police, peasant farmers/ranchers, etc.

It's not a situation that is in anyway like Chicago gang violence where you can just stay out of the hood.

Yeah, becoming an organ donor for the cartel is super chill.

There are plenty of other cheap countries out there that you can travel to without constantly worrying about being hassled by the police or beheaded by a criminal organization. And many of them actually have better food and you can actually drink the water without getting extremely sick

I just got back from Panama, and honestly it's a little too safe nowadays. Costa Rica is a pain to get around and honestly it's developing but not in the right ways.

Colombia is my favorite, because it has all the good, it doesn't feel too safe, but it still has all the relic items from the past(prostitution, drugs out in the open, fun people, friendly locals, party culture, awesome stuff to do) which make it great without being too sterile. It's not totally 3rd world in all places, but there's definitely enough 3rd world to appreciate it. But it's a big enough country with it's own economy and such that you can still catch cheap flights from city to city. Costa Rica and Panama are basically US colonies, and they either use the US dollar or their currency is pegged to the dollar. Which makes everything expensive. Colombia is fuking cheap still.

Delusionals ITT. I’ve been going to Mexico for the past 4 years and it’s been safe every time. Cancun, PV TWICE, and Puerto Pensaco. As long as you’re not in the cartel business you’ll be straight. And of course tourist spots are always safe. Mexico is beautiful man don’t miss out on the hnng women there too. I felt like a god in Mexico bishes swarming to me. Im going again in october for day of the dead so it should be a good time!

Yeah, honestly I haven't been to Mexico in quite a few years, but this thread is BS. Yes Mexico has some things occasionally happen, but unless you're being a dumbass there isn't anything to worry about. I've gotten pretty reckless in Mexico and never felt a single worry, and I doubt it has changed.

I went a 8-9 city tour in and around Guadalajara a little over a decade ago. There were security concerns back then as well. We actually avoided Mexico City all together due to kidnapping issues at the time. We had a great trip.

Lol... if you really think that you’re painfully unaware. The Cartels are starting to move into tourist areas now. And even if you don’t run into them you still take a chance with their corrupt as fuk police who can shake you down for ANYTHING AT ANY TIME.

Went to both Cancun and Acapulco back in the day (2002/03) for spring break and that was more than enough. Not a chance in hell I’d ever go back. Not when I could go to Brazil or Colombia instead.

Mexican here...cliffs= don't go RN

I'd wait it out...I have dual residency and even both sides of my family (east coast and west coast) has had problems within this past year and now. (No gang association)


El mencho has **** heated up af. It's not that people are going to kidnap you or Target YOU, more as it's hard to gauge the statistics of getting caught in bytraffic of crime. Like bus bombings between govt pups vs. gangs.

Innocent bystanders are being hurt etc. Then less vicious criminals are taking advantage of the chaos / fear mongering by threatening tourists for money etc.

Everytime I've gone by car we've been stopped my narc. Cops for money but we never give them full ask and they realize were not new to the game.

A family friend was murdered last month for his spot in that small towns political committee. (He mostly did accounting)


Check out some us teritorities or us islands instead. Or stay in Baja California tourist spots.

OP: Hmmm lets see where should I go on vacation? I'm thinking out of all the countries in the world - Mexico. Where violent cartels are fighting, murders are at an all-time high, Americans are hated and ppl are getting beheaded and skinned alive. Yeah! Sounds like a great time! What could possibly go wrong?

Next up - Afghanistan or El Salvador. Hell might as well check out North Korea while I am at it.

hmmm interesting, might look into costa rica more. my understanding is that its bang in the middle of rainy season so thats obvious a big issue.

yeah i get the feeling its been a bit overblown... if i made a thread about brazil im sure tons of people would have said dont go, its this and that. but when i went i had a great time and loved every minute of it. but its good to hear people's views, especially those that live there/are from mexico. decisions decisions mayne.
