Problem is WAY too many parents think that as long as they keep their kids “safe at home” they’re doing a great job... even if they’re not interacting with their kids at all.

I agree with the first part. but you have to remember that video games, youtube, etc are all on phones now. They don't have to be in their room to be doing that. My mom had no idea the type of chit I was doing when I would stay the night at a friends. All of us ITT could say that. Very rarely am I on the side of "blame the parents!" especially now days.

I deal with juveniles all the time. I can say that a lot of the time the parents have no idea what type of chit is in these kids phones.

Some of the most incompetent people at assessing how someone is doing and what they are up to is their own parents.

Cockiness and ego are some of the most blinding attributes in humans. Parents will always believe their son is a good guy because they cannot accept otherwise and that they know him inside out since he came from their body/sperm and it just makes it nearly impossible to pick up on signs. You've already made up your mind as a parent, and accepting an alternative will be too destructive. Nobody copes harder than parents tbh. I'd personally give away my secret, about how contrasting my parents perception is of me in some areas and the reality but I'd rather not for privacy reasons. Let's just say it's the polar opposite in more than one area, and there are things about me, that are a reflection of my childhood that they would never guess in a million years. It's funny cause my dad is always going on about how he knows me so well and can read me inside out and in my head I'm like "just fukn lmao, if only you knew, if only you knew what I know." That's why parents are often shocked at the shyt their children do and say shyt like "I never could have imagined my child would do that, etc." The tl;dr is to just raise your kids right, don't abuse them, don't destroy them and their will to exist and thrive, don't spoil them, don't be neglectful, and leave the rest to destiny.
