We're steadily loosening our gun laws just fyi

https://www.apnews.com/a69166e1f1074a0196deb70ef6e7f8b4

Texas has no restrictions on gun sales and allows licensed handgun owners to carry their weapons openly or concealed. Long gun or rifles, like the one used in the El Paso massacre, can be openly carried in public. Alice Tripp, legislative director and lobbyist for the NRA-affiliated Texas State Rifle Association, said Texans won’t follow other states on gun laws.

“We’re smarter. We’re self-determined and independent and look for the root cause of problems,” Tripp said. “We don’t follow people who simply say for political purposes, ‘We should have done this or that.’ We look for laws that could have made a difference.”

...and Texas will turn blue within the next two or three election cycles (regrettably). You can bet the liberals are going to go full in on Texas. They will make Texas a center piece of their gun control agenda.

Texas is in the liberals cross hairs. If they can tear down the great state of Texas it will make a statement.

I'm not so sure about that. Latinos in Texas don't vote like latinos in California

It's gonna be interesting to see what happens when Hispanics are the majority. Based on my own anecdotes of friendship with them they don't have anything in common with the liberal agenda besides protecting abuela from ICE. If that's ever a non-issue some things will probably change.

How does one even evaluate for mental illness anyways?

“Are you depressed bro?”

“Nah”

“Alright here you go buy what ever you want no questions asked”

Sorry bro some retards ruined the gun fun. Just like drinking and weed, all it takes is a couple of retards to ruin it for the rest of us, then big poppa government has to step in and baby sit all of us
It is only when a man comes to terms with his own mortality, can he gain the freedom to appreciate life.

What the fuk difference does it make if 100 people die at different times vs at the same event?
full auto guns have been banned since 1934

Think about this way. Suppose we're talking about a finite number of events.

A) 50 people die from one mass shooting. Other 50 events are single homicides. Total number of events = 51.
B) 100 people die from single homicides. Total number of events = 100

Now, I think we can both agree that banning large magazines will not somehow increase the number of single homicides. The ratio of deaths/events is as follows:

A) 100/51 = 1.96 deaths/event
B) 100/100 = 1 death/event

If we assume the total number of gun-related homicide events remain the same in both scenarios, then scenario A would mean more deaths. That's what some iHateDeadlifts is getting at.

(Disclaimer: this is a simple schematic and the numbers I chose are for simplicity's sake)

God, this is such a brainlet argument it gets so tiring. "RaPid SucCeSsIon"

Ok, so I guess an AR15 chambered in .22LR would be the ultimate "ASSAULT WEAPON" because you can fire a **** ton faster with .22lr than you could 223/556

Also is a Nemo Omen "Assault rifle" Chambered in 300 winmag doubly bad because it shoots a mac truck of a round but at a lower "RaTe Of FiRe", or nah?

Atomic bombs and Cyanide gas are considered "munitions" and "Destructive devices". States are not allowed to own atomic bombs/nuclear missiles either. The federal government does.
Mini guns are considered Machine guns which are already heavily regulated/banned.

Atomic bombs are far beyond the affordability of the average citizen today. Or todays "militia". Atomic bombs are also not in common use.

Do you honestly think each individual citizen could on their own afford the modern military? To pay for an entire missile silo in their backyard, the installation of equipment to maintain that missile the control systems and the fuel and DECADES of maintenance for that missile and the silo? Can the average civilian who struggles with their car payment, rent, medical expenses afford to build runways and hangars and other facilities to have a B-2 Stealth Bomber in their driveway? Let alone afford to pay for the training to learn how to fly it and handle all the operating systems? Can the average civilian afford to go out and buy from the ground up the expenses of a Navy task force including carriers, support ships, crew, aircraft, and take care of them for decades a ship is in service? So if you are asking if a civilian can walk into someplace and buy a nuke and secure it from others who may desire to steal (whether an enemy spy or terrorist) it and keep it safe from accidents and radiation leaks there would in theory be so much demands and regulations that no civilian could afford it.

Dont forget the "Heller test" basically says that the arms protected under the Second Amendment include handguns, and others which can "contribute to the common defense" are "in common use at the time". There is additional language that justifies continued traditional regulation of "unusual" weapons. As a result, nukes simply don't pass the Heller test.

Also particular note is that the military pattern, magazine fed semi-automatic AR-15, which is America's favorite and most popularly sold rifle is pretty clearly protected by the specified test, and handguns, noted to be what most Americans choose for their own defense, were specifically included in the ruling.

Yeah these people who saying it could fire 1000 rounds a minute have never shot a fire arm. Good ****ing luck pulling a semi-auto trigger on a 223 that fast. Also great job nut understanding how barrels and cooling work and how doing that would warp the barrel fast as ****.

It would be extremely foolish of the government to think they could turn these folks against their own people.
At face value this is true. However, if we look at how things like this have been done in the past, the actors on the ground weren't given face value. It's surprisingly easy to demonize a group of people, to make them "others" who deserve to be eradicated. Waco is a fairly good example...here's a group of Christians living on their own with weird beliefs. The ATF agents who executed the raid weren't told that they were American families (with weird beliefs that I don't agree with in any way). Instead, they were cultists molesting kids (not proven) and manufacturing illegal machineguns (not proven as far as I know) to commit terrorist attacks (never happened).

The point is, our men and women in uniform would never knowingly kill their own countrymen. Unless they were lied to, and it's surprisingly easy to craft that narrative in such a way that young Soldiers get excited to do it.

It feels so wrong that Schaub drives around in a Ferrari.

And it's not because I feel jealous that he's successful, but it's because of how he got successful - he got popular because he's supposedly funny.

Has anyone here actually watched any comedy specials he stars in? If he got rich due to being a fighter, that at least makes sense. But he's famous because people think he's entertaining outside of getting knocked out in mma? Really?

We live in a weird world.
