Somehow over the years we have forgotten how to be neighbors.

You see something strange next door? Give your neighbor's door a knock to see if they are alright. You don't need to call 911 because you're too lazy to get up off the couch and pause KUWTK.

Yes this cop screwed up but this whole situation could have been entirely avoided if the neighbor just knocked on the door. Only in 2019 do we call the police to check on our neighbor instead of just asking the neighbor yourself.

Really sad. I do wish there wasn't such a focus on it being a black woman being shot, and instead just focusing on the incompetent officer. I imagine all this does is create more tension between blacks and police officers, which could cause officers to be treated poorly by the black population, and being more trigger happy in return.

I saw the video and unless he saw something in the room that we didn't like a weapon then he basically got trigger happy and murdered her.

Well there's distrust between certain portions of the black community and cops. It isn't just something fabricated by the media. This has been talked about for over 30 years but now we have body cams and can record incidents with our phones now so now it's publicly available to those who deny it. Even things like talking to the police is frowned upon due to "no snitching" when it would actually be beneficial for blacks to report criminals to LEO.

Also this is a year right after the Amber Guyver / Botham Jean incident which is eerily similar (a cop intruding on a black person and killing them) so of course this will heat people up.

NAAGA (National African American Gun Assosiation) has responded but I wonder if the NRA will say anything. Colion Noir is actually a Dallas resident and a black man who is registered in the NRA. I wonder if he will say anything.

Gotta say, the police chief trying to own it a little bit was refreshing this morning.

- Admits he can't think of one good reason this happened.
- Admits homeowners have a right to have a gun and that would have been no excuse.
- Says he was going to fire the officer if he didn't resign.

Yeah realistically this was "death by overzealous neighbor"

The other thing about it is dispatch miscommunication.

The dispatcher seemed lethargic as fuk. Said they already dispatched someone? Really? Does that mean its like a broken link between who calls and what the officers are told when sent in?

These days they should forward the call as an MP3 file to their dispatch system so the officer can hear it too. Not just the diluted report from a jaded dispatcher.

Did they convey properly the level of potential threat.

Did the dispatcher say something nuanced like: "suspicious door open but neighbor seemed overly concerned for no reason, might be nothing but just to be safe"

Or is it just some vague code about a possible break-in?

The old saying you can never be too careful isn't true, some people are just too autistic about such things.

They need to up their communication.

Having seen the footage it did look like a haunted house out of a horror movie though lol.

While it's not fabricated, with social media and how fast information and MISinformation can spread, the second you see a "white cop shoots black woman" headline, everyone immediately points to racism and gets worked up without a single fact about the situation. In the vast majority of the cases the headline would accurately be written as "cop shoots dangerous criminal" yet the outrage and protests have already begun before any facts or bodycam footage are even released. This is a case in the minority where outrage seems justified.

Ronald Davis is a recent example. Black man is shot, no one has any information, and there are protests days after (this page is absurdhttps://www.********.com/events/3053...tab=discussion). Takes 9 days to get the bodycam video out showing he's charging a cop with a knife.

And based on this video (https://www.fox9.com/news/activists-...oting-released), after the bodycam footage was out, protesters demanded a private investigation because they didn't trust it! I mean...when you release footage like that, and people are still claiming BS, how are you supposed to assuage the distrust between black communities and cops? I don't even know anymore but "white cop shoots black woman" headlines will never help.

nah. this guy is getting some sort of murder/manslaughter conviction. even if she had a gun in her hand pointing it at him (she was in her own home), he's catching some sort of a case and career is done for sure.

i don't see what race has to do with this case. it was dark and she was very fair skinned (relatively). it's sad that if she was white i don't think anyone would evenb be giving attention to this. tbh the officer's shoot looked like a negligent discharge - i wonder if it was even an intentional shot.
