How to Argue With a Racist: History, Science, Race and Reality, by Adam Rutherford.
Meh. A lot of science nobody really disagrees with. The title is pure clickbait. I'm pretty sure not many racists are out there trying to confirm their prejudices with higher education, DNA, and genetics.
Some interesting historical points. Would recommend if you want an educated take on the topic of race that isn't just pandering.

** This was a reread for me, but it's a great story. I didn't realize this when I first read it, but Andy Weir actually started this as a serial releasing a chapter at a time on his blog. When he finished, he was encouraged to sell it on Amazon as an entire novel, and he did while selecting the lowest selling price possible: $0.99. The sale of it went through the roof and that's when he was approached by publishers who eventually brought it to print. Weir's wit and sarcasm is good, VERY GOOD.

I'm currently in various stages of being done with around 6 books, keep losing interest and switching between them. Here are my reads from last year:

02. Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell - 5/10
Not particularly promising. I'm done with Rowe, he writes juvenile trash fantasy even worse than the majority of litrpg. Spellslinger by Castell was disappointing because his Greatcoats series is pretty solid fantasy, unfortunately I did not realize this is young adult. 2020 was not a good year for fantasy releases in general and I've already scoured most of the genre.

Classic Literature: Oxford's A Very Short Introduction by William Allan (30%)
Jung: Oxford's A Very Short Introduction by Anthony Stevens (30%)

Good luck on your reading goals brahs. The Oxford's A Very Short Introduction series is like 500+ 100-180 page overviews of a huge variety of topics. These two + Foucault are what I'm looking at right now with some other potential ones. They tend not to be super well-reviewed but these seem to be some of the best. Mother of Learning is the reason my reading seems so slow, it's a web serial that's 2150 pages that I started at the beginning of the month.

Wasn't really feeling this one. It felt like I was reading a feminist's SJW diatribe about being a white girl begging to be accepted into a 1920's black community. The author uses a lot of "Juno style" dialog that ends up being more annoying than witty or smart.

This was a fairly straightforward and easy read about the adventures of a young naval Lieutenant in the King's army during the Napoleonic wars, who gets command of his own vessel after the Allies decide to retreat from Toulon as the Republican forces close in en masse.

finished Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris this morning (5th book of the year)
I’m a sucker for “self help” books, and I think this one is especially well done; as it’s more of a reference guide spanning many different topics that are divided into three sections (Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise). Tim interviews dozens of people at the pinnacle of their professions and crafts, so it’s not just Tim’s thoughts, you get insight from a ton of very “successful” people.
There were many sections I bookmarked and will reference back to later.

1. Poppy War 4/5
Picked up the second book in the Poppy War trilogy and will start soon. Nearing the end of Dark Tower book 1 THe Gunslinger as well. Slowly going through A Way of Kings too. Then with the reddit /AYearofWarAndPeace I am reading that. We are going a chapter a day then they do discussion. Helps make it not seem as overwhelming and is very interesting so far! Hope all is well. I have a couple of you on goodreads but if anyone else is interested my name on there is Shawnholio. Stay well everyone and keep reading!

Just got done reading this one. raises good points about the GDP, govt spending, etc in it's time that it was produced, but the solutions are solid, such as living a life of minimalism, which is a strategy he promotes in a lot of his books.
Also picking a solid career in STEM, marrying/fcuking the right person, etc
