IT jobs you can get in fairly easily at a small company and pay around the same what you make now. Couple of certs, know what you're talking about in the interview process, and you can get your foot in the door. It's very easy to both stay stagnate, but also to gain a lot of experience and climb the ladder if you're willing.

Not for everyone tho. I was with a small IT healthcare company and for about 10 months I was carrying the weight of 4 people. Lots of on call hours, lots of staying late, lots of experience, a decent sized bonus that wasn't worth it in the end.. but also getting burnt out and finding out it wasn't for me. But every company and place is different and you can go in a bunch of different directions

For sure. I can guess pretty close what mine will be in a good/better/best year, but I also help set the corporate targets short-term incentive compensation is based on.

'20 revenue was down 15-20% from forecast (which was a miracle it wasn't worse), but we closed 2 multi-year mid-9 figure deals which stuffed our backlog for 22/23 with a +30% growth forecast. Plus it's cracked open 2 new markets and new clients, it was a bananas year.

Waiting to see how my 3000hrs of work last year is 'evaluated'.

Remoting is actually new this past year because of covid, but none of the positions are officially full-time remote. I still rotate with my co-workers going into the office. We each take 1 week a month.

I joked with my boss that if my house burned down I'd want to move and he seemed okay with being remote at a distance, but I doubt the company would allow it because it's not an official policy.

So in addition to my entire family being here, kids, divorced. It's easier just to stay here. When my kids are out on their own I will have a ton more money and can do what I want.

I save for emergencies and retirement, but I believe in enjoying life, so I do spend a lot of money on, vacations, toys, activities, and my kids.

It does get evaluated by a committee who benchmarks it against other similar corporate entities and decides fairness, but yeah.

It gets in your nature to sandbag it a little. You wind up with smaller budgets to work with but you look good if you over deliver.

Correctional Officer, with OT got $113k last year, have a 5% raise this June and next June, then I'll be topped out on pay so only getting better. Not as good as some ITT but it allows me to buy all the dumb sht I want.

Last OT check of last year, only 5 extra shifts for ~$2500.

The vanguard 100 index fund returns about 10% annually. It just follows the top 100 firms by market capital. So you would need 300k in your retirement account. Less if your employer matches a portion of your investments...
