JFL at one month sobriety. This is a lifestyle, not some one-month temporary bs.

I actually watched a youtube video on 1 month sober (and now I keep getting bombarded with thousands of them, they must think im a raging alcoholic)..

Anyway... A LOT of them were saying that after a week or so of moping about the house and feeling sorry for themselves, they all discovered new hobbies (or rediscovered old ones). A lot of them said they would go to the gym at night or for a bike ride or run, just because they didnt realise how much time they wasted just watching TV drinking wine after wine or beer after beer.

So theres a double edge sword to giving up alcohol. Not only do you save money + calories from it, if you are then doing something active or moving more (like running) you're burning more too. So overall you will look much better. It's not just from a bodyfat perspective either. More you sweat, the better you skin will be. The better your hair will be etc.

I legit dont think i've not drank alcohol for longer than 2 week since I was probably about 17-18 (29 now). Lockdown definitely made me drink more. I dont think its a problem, but it is (if that makes sense?) .

Like, I dont drink to get drunk. But will share a bottle of wine (or two) with the mrs for dinner most nights. So I'm not drunk, but its still enough on a regular basis to add a lot of unnecessary calories + when I've had like 3-4 days off, I 100% feel better waking up in the morning and have more energy throughout the days. Also, she doesnt work (housewife crew) so the alcohol bill is essentially twice as much.

So we're both doing Sober October.

Morning of day 2. Worked out twice yesterday. Hoped that it would make me go to bed earlier last night but it didn’t do chit. I remember last time I tried to quit drinking my sleep was effected big time. Couldn’t fall asleep, kept waking up.

Woke up at 6:30 this morning to tire myself out so I’m dead tired by this evening

Fine, I'll talk about my struggle. Quitting is easy, but what am I supposed to do when the weekend comes?

As soon as Friday 5PM hits the struggle becomes real. At least I have a reason not to drink during the week, I hate working hungover, and working drunk is dumb.

So what do I do when I have no hobbies? I used to play professional chess, but now I quit because I'm not as good as I once was. Don't tell me to find some because it's not happening. I'd rather sleep.

Get some hobbies. What do you do when you are thirsty, hungry, sleepy? Address the issue brah.

If you enjoyed chess why stop just because you're not GM level? It's a HOBBY. Hit up muzzlrpress he will play online w you, he can kick my ass so maybe he will be a good opponent to you.

You're the one who just identified it as the issue, so I WILL tell you to find some. PM me if you need to talk brah, you can make it if you try.

I want to travel to NL in December. I've calculated that I will have enough for two weeks despite my drinking. I don't like playing chess as a hobby, only as a profession. I'll play the Fried Fox Defense only or the Bongcloud, otherwise: I don't take chess seriously anymore.

For those of you struggling with hobbies, what I’ve been doing is trying to go outside do stuff as much as possible. It’s October so here in Florida it’s just now becoming bearable to be outside during the day. Been riding my bike all day on my days off and just bringing a book with me and reading at parks and stopping to get food at cool places. I did this yesterday and at night I was so tired I just went to sleep rather than obsess over drinking.

It’s fall so let’s get outside before the weather gets cold (besides in the south)
