James is a total of 3 years older than me and joined the NBA when I was 16.

Not exactly the same thing.

Brady joined the NFL when I was 12. A solid chunk of my childhood involved him playing football. Sadly, Brady was the last.

If we want to talk basketball, the last great players I’d consider from my childhood were Kobe and Duncan.

For baseball it’s harder… I guess Alex Rodriguez was the last great one from my childhood. For a minute I thought it was Mariano Rivera but I checked the dates and ARod edges him out. I remember Riveras farewell tour more vividly than ARod retiring though.

i felt terrible when rice retired. i think brady may come back in a year. he has a 3 year contract he cant come back sooner and change teams.

I stopped after Bryant retired. And the same thing may happen with NFL. Don’t really care about my hometown team and haven’t for awhile. I mostly just tune in to see how far Brady can extend the legacy.

I really thought he’d finish the last year on his contract tbh

I think everyone was really hoping/assuming he had one more year in him.

Really feels like the end of an era in sports. Even if you didn't like the guy, he was the face of football for so long.

I'm 29 and I started watching football right when he came into the league. He gave so many insane memories.

Yeah it's hard for me to know since I don't know jack sh*t about NHL really but I wouldn't necessarily argue against it. And yeah Tiger was just on another level for golf. I know enough there to agree with that.

I don't pay attention to tennis but I sort of assume Serena Williams may also be in that category for her sport with the way people talk about her achievements. I just assume she's basically untouchable, but if someone pays closer attention and wants to shoot that assumption down I'm happy to be enlightened if it's inaccurate.

I wish I could add in a tennis player (since I'm a tennis player lol) Djokovic or Federer, Serena Williams for the women.

I'm so sad about not seeing Brady play another season as I live on the West Coast and missed a lot of his games. I became a TB12 fan and started buying his stuff only 2 years ago. Before that I really didn't care about football. It also helped that the Niners went to the Super Bowl that year.

Of course they ****ed that up this year

Montana was Brady’s hero and he grew up here. I think his parents are still here in the Bay.

They don’t even play in SF any longer, they play in Santa Clara which isn’t ridden with homeless everywhere. Just some places :-/.
