So, she was talking to the politician that threatened to expose the company, etc. Homelander heard all of this and thought he was going to protect Elizabeth by killing the Politician in his plane.

He was raised to be like that and since he was raised without love he has no idea what to do or how to act, but he always wants to do positive things. He just gets manipulated into doing all of this stuff because he has Stockholm Syndrome (siding with abusers).

In the show, Homelander always wants to do the right things but keeps getting blocked. That leads to massive frustration and it's making him meaner.

In the show, he has repeatedly said that he just wants to be an actual superhero.

He's even dating a Nazi and he's like, come on!

He wants to be a father to his kid, but is shown having no idea how to do it.

An illogical part of the show is that Homelander could just leave the company and start his own organization. They don't mention it, so I imagine that he has Stockholm Syndrome and believes he can't leave or can't do it by himself.

Anyway, if Homelander was a real person and you learned that he was grown in a lab and kind of threatened and tortured by scientists while being deprived of any family or love, would you think he's a bad narcissist for not acting right?
Bro idk what show you are watching but home lander is the bad guy. Period. The comics paint him even 10x worse. He's never supposed to garner sympathy from the viewers and if you feel that way you're probably ****ed in the head like homelander

You either didn't read the comic book, or you just don't remember correctly. It was Homelander who raped her.

Yet Vought didn't want to have him killed. Plus let's not forget that Homelander was actively spreading V.

No he doesn't "always wants to do positive things", all the "positive things" he does are for PR and to fuel his narcissism. No idea how you've managed to come up with Stockholm Syndrome, he fuking hates Vought personnel, including Vogelbaum.

Nothing illogical about it, he's pretty fuking retarded in general. And even if he weren't, there is simply no way he could ever hope to create something with the level of influence, power and reach of Vought.

You mean the person who:

- casually lasered the mayor of Baltimore's plane in half, killing everyone on board, including his kid he just gave an autograph to or w/e
- actively created supe terrorists and threatened to kill others involved if word got out
- fuked up the plane rescue because he's retarded then left everyone to die just to cover up his fuk up, and hasn't even attempted to save a single soul
- went on to hold a muh terrorism speech while said plane's wreckage washed ashore
- raped Becca
- killed the shapeshifting supe
- deafened the blind supe dude
- casually threatens everyone with deadly force if they dare speak up to him
- most recently killed another supe
- forced the girl to jump to her death

(And I'm sure I have missed several of his misdeeds, not to mention his murders that could possibly be argued about whether the victim deserved it or not, like the sniper dude who surrendered and Stillwell.)

Obviously. A fuked up upbringing does not absolve him of anything.

Spoiler!
No, it was Black Noir.

The point is made clear near the White House events in the comic where Homelander says he doesn't remember raping Becky, just like he doesn't remember doing all that messed up crap he apparently did in the photos. It's because he didn't do any of it, and he also has no reason to lie to Butcher. He does remember fuking up the Brooklyn Bridge, then killing the winning family in the car and then that airplane during Herogasm.

The "kid" has Homelander's powers because Black Noir is a genetic clone of him.

Homelander is definitely the villain and evil. Yes, it's partly because it was realized he was the ultimate weapon and super powerful, so people treated him like that and not a child, but now they have unleashed something on the world that they don't know how to fix. They tried to keep him in check with his ego and fear of bad public opinion, but now he's showing that he realizes that none of that matters, as being feared is almost the same as being respected. In both instances you get your way and people do what you wish.

It was said in the last episode that they fear that if he gets upset enough he could literally kill millions of people. Remember, this is Superman without a kryptonite vulnerability. The Justice League and the humans like Batman always had a backup in case Superman decided to act like this. This Earth, up until this point, has no way to stop him. He can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

Does he have moments of having an actual soul? sure. Hitler seemed to be good with kids and animals. Even someone who is evil can come across as normal and charming at times, as there are normal parts of their personality.

You can't blame a torture victim brought up by cold hearted psychopaths for doing bad things, it's as simple as that.

They repeatedly show Homelander being fair to people he thinks made a mistake. He can't stand people f@cking with him and he goes overboard to hurt and humiliate them.

Everyone on the show he harms of humiliates is someone who did something to him or is not a good person.

He did not kill Starlight for plotting against the team and his reason was that she did it for love.

That says everything about his character. If he was an actually villain he would have killed her. In the show Homelander is like a pathetically awkward person who is mentally sick from abuse, but he constantly wants things to go well.

He had sex with butcher's wife, she steals his kid. He loved the female executive, but she was using him. He respects the company, but they tortured him and use him like a product. He fell in love with an awesome superhero, she turns out to be a Nazi and he can't really stand the idea of Nazis. And, there's more, so the show is saying that he gets constantly cheated and is freaking out more and more.

A nice person may do bad things under stress and if that's the case then only their actions are bad.

I didn't read the comics but read a wiki about them. The show seems really different and I think the writer is humanizing Homelander more than the comics.

I don't agree with that.

The show keeps telling the story that Homelander actually has very low self-esteem. He's got a mother complex due to his tortured childhood and there's been a variety of comical scenes about that. However, they are supposed to be meaningful not just funny.

He is fearful of not being involved in the company. Homelander could go out and make his own company or do anything he wanted. If he was egotistical he would have done that.

Last episode the CEO of the company talked to Homelander like he was trash and Homelander was sad then went and abused people. That is like what an abused spouse or child would do. If he was a bad guy he would have harmed or killed the CEO, but because he's the "CEO" and Homelander has low self-esteem, he didn't do anything and just took all of the insults.

I don't know what the writers have in mind but they are making Homelander out to have the same kind of responses as an abused child.

You have to WATCH and THINK about what the show is telling you.

Homelander SAID in the show that he wanted to fight real super villains. He was made to be a superman and it turns out that it was by a company that only wanted to make it LOOK like superhumans were need, but they aren't.

So, Homelander's life is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY, so you have to think about it.

I have imagined being Superman and then wonder what I would actually do in Philly. Most crimes are drug crimes and there's no burning buildings, plane crashes, bridges falling apart, and so on. Thus, as Superman you would never have much to do that required super powers. That would suck.

It would suck MORE if you knew you had been invented as a marketing gimmick and were Superman and not allowed to go fight real crime.

In several episodes, Homelander said he wanted to really do superhero work. The pathetic fact was that he was willing to do to other people what was done to him in order to have super villains to fight.

Politician:

He killed the guy because he loved the female executive and he basically said so. She then told him he was a "naughty boy" and it was time for some boobs!

I mean how could you not see what all of that means.

In addition, he does not hate the people at the company, he's afraid of them because they are the people who abused him growing up. It was really clear in last week's episode where the CEO is talking to Homelander like trash. Homelander looked like a little kid getting told off by a rejecting parent.

Becca:

In the show, he did not rape her. She is seen coming out of the office fixing her hair and suit like she just did something in secret.

Also, in the show he did not kill Butcher because Homelander said he did not rape her and why would he take pity on Butcher like that. It's because if you make a mistake Homelander will not kill you.

Deafening:

Homelander was raised by psychopathic scientists with no mercy. So, he acted the same way but to the superhero he deafened.

Plane: He explained there was no way to save the people on the plane because in his mind they were already dead. So, he took a cold hearted approach to the whole thing, which again is how he was always treated by the company. On the plane he basically said that he wished he could help and then explained how he couldn't and so he didn't.

Killing People:

Anyone I can think of that he killed was because he saw them as doing something very wrong.

What's most important is who he DIDN'T KILL which are Starlight, Hughey, and Butcher.

Like I've said, he didn't kill Starlight because he knew she betrayed the team for love. So, Homelander understands doing bad things for love. He didn't kill Hughey for the same reason. He didn't kill Butcher, who wanted to kill him, because he knew Butch thought he raped his wife, but he didn't, so he forgave Butcher.

If you think about what is being said in the show and how it's being presented, then Homelander is more like a "twisted" person from abuse than from deciding to be sinister. The show basically says that if homelander was raised by a normal family then he would be different.

A BIGGEST indicator that Homelander has been manipulated was the female exec treating him like a little boy mixed with sex because she knew she could use him as much as she wanted to. If he was clearly making his own choices the story couldn't have that in it.

It's not the same thing.

People in our world aren't government experiments raised in a lab and mentally and physically tortured into compliance by trained psychologists or whatever.

You have to pay attention to the show.

It's retarded to watch a show and not understand anything that's being said except for like 10% of it.

ffs brah are you that daft?

noone is saying there is no cause to Homelander being a complete psycho, but you are the only one using that to JUSTIFY all his twisted actions (f.e. how do you justify the jumper girl?)

you can be born bad or turn bad by circumstances but in the end bad = bad

feels like you're trying too hard to come up with a controversial opinion to make yourself seem smarter than you actually are

The Adlerian,

Do you want to tell the misc what dark, horrible thing you have done? It's ok, we won't judge as you aren't responsible since you had a bad childhood.

There must be something by how hard you are twisting things to justify Homelander's actions.

I'll just address this remark, because it is by far the most egregious thing you're trying to justify. He fuked up with lasering the controls and didn't even consider saving a single person on board. Sure, most of them would have died anyway, but he could have easily popped out and back, saving at least a couple of them. But then of course it would have been discovered that he fuked up in the first place, hurting his image, and he simply can't have that. Your explanation doesn't even make any sense. No wonder, since you're trying to defend an undefendable point.

"Like I've said, he didn't kill Starlight because he knew she betrayed the team for love." - still have no idea what this one refers to.

No idea why you're pushing this, you do get the point that Homelander being a fuked up psycho narcissist is a result of his "upbringing" - and the fact that he's a literal god among men so he really cannot sympathize with anyone - but then you try to turn it around to absolve him of his crimes and to strip him of agency.

That's not true.

Doing bad things does not make you a bad person.

If you are stealing because you have no food, you are not a bad person.

If that person then gets a job and has money to buy food, problem solved. They are different from a career criminal.

If you have an abused child in foster care and they're hitting people or sexually touching other foster kids, you don't call the police and have them put in jail. Instead, you assume they were molested as children and now doing what abusers taught them to do. So, you try to help them stop.

That is the EXACT same story as Homelander.

If you have to ignore someone talking about the meaning of a comedy TV show, you are a massive weakling.

Put that on ignore.

Try to not psychologically unravel because I'm saying things about a TV show you can't understand.

In real life, I work with abused children in foster care.

They do all kinds of stuff, watch porn, abuse animals, try to set their foster homes on fire, have orgies, beat people up, commit crimes, humiliate people, do drugs, steal, sexually abuse other kids, try to seduce adults, and much more and we do not consider them bad and we do not call the police. Instead, we view them as victims and try to help them unlearn those behaviors.

The Boys is about the same things because it is said so. The company trains the super people to be vicious. This was just said on the last show. The Blue Whatever beating up black people said that the company trained him to have no mercy. Homelander is the biggest product of the company and he was trained to be cold hearted, think he's better, etc while being deprived of love, then he's turned loose on the public and he's never really dealt with normal human behavior before.

There is not difference between him and an abuse victim, only in the show he has super powers.

Didn’t want a huge post so deleted the rest

But this part matches up correctly with that board lady putting him on the spot and he didn’t know sht

Your take on home lander I would say is correct and well thought out

Again YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE SHOW.

Homelander could do anything he wanted to but he is brainwashed by the company.

So, he is ordered to go and stop the terrorists, which he does, but that's not to help people, but to advance the goals of the company. He accidentally disables the plane.

He explains to his partner that he cannot stop a flying plan because planes are too flimsy to handle like that and he would rip it apart.

His partner suggests that they save as many people as possible. Then Homelander says that letting the rest of the people die would make the company look bad.

So, he concludes the best thing for THE COMPANY is to pretend they were never there and let everyone die because they would have died anyway.

So, that scene was showing that Homelander is like a real life "corporate shill" and will do anything for the company because companies are more important than people. From the story perspective, he was raised without love and doesn't understand the needs and emotions of other people. So, he approaches things like a company salesman with superpowers like he was raised to.

On the side, Homelander struggles with wanting to do the right things, he wants to be a superhero, he wants to be a dad, and so forth but doesn't know how because he was an very abused person and is still afraid of the company.

@alderian your whole premise is flawed

what you are doing is explaining certain factors that contributed to homelander becoming as evil as he is. that doesnt change the fact that he is evil

either you're trolling hard or you are genuinely retarded

literally everybody ITT is just trying to explain to you it doesn't matter WHY Homelander acts like a psycho, his actions are what matters

and you're acting like you're intellectually superior by telling everyone that disagrees with you (which is every single poster ITT) "can't understand a TV show"

get your ego in check
