IDK, Sweden and the UK seem to be doing pretty well for themselves and they're considered "secular"

And by "well," I mean the very tenants of their society function as intended and people living there have a positive outlook on life. (I.e. They're not war torn or on the verge of collapse).
The separation of Church and State only happened in the year 2020. Secular Sweden is literally only 20+ years old, and its society has already grown so pathetically weak that it's being overtaken by 3rd world invaders. For the rest of its 1000+ year history, it has always historically been Christian.

The same goes double for England.

Citing England and Sweden as secular state is pure dishonesty. Religion built those countries to what it is today.

Atheism has never BUILT. But of course, you being disingenuous, you chose to talk about its CURRENT state.

England and Sweden were never the result of atheism. But you already knew that, didn't you?

As for religion being a coping mechanism: No. It is an INNATE mechanism of mankind. You choose to view it as a coping mechanism because you yourself observe that this innate trait allows mankind to overcome all types of adversity.

Long before man ever experience violence and war, he looked up into the sky, pondered the meaning of life, and -- like every other man across this planet throughout time -- can only conclude that it's some higher being/God.

Religion is innate to Man; Atheism is a parasitic invasion of the mind.

Ironic, considering this sort of thing happens today except in reverse (can't be religious in academia)

You can speculate all you want.

But one thing is for certain:

Religion has never suppressed the mind like atheist would like you to believe.

Religion and scientific advancements have always gone hand in hand.

At the very least, no matter how militantly atheistic, you cannot deny this fact.

I'd wager places like Sweden and the UK were always ahead of the curve when it came to secularization, at least compared to the US and especially the ME, and they've been that way they far longer than 20 years...more like 45-50years.

I'm a deist, (read my earlier posts in this thread) and religion most certainly stifled the minds of people especially during the 16th-18th century England where the Pope commanded the Kings to keep people illiterate so they'd be dependant on religion and the church for guidance.

This is cope.

You are grasping at straw, citing 45-50 years as if it means **** all to a countries that are literally thousands of years old.

Nice, bro. Citing minor insignificant instances totally proves your point.

Man, if the Pope hadn't commanded the King of England to keep those rando peasants illiterate back in (insert random year here), we'd totally be colonizing the stars right about now, right?

The invention of the computer is attributed to Charles Babbage. A fanatical Christian who grew up in Christian majority England.

LMFAO!! This example is backfiring on your worse than your stupid Brad Pitt example.

The only troglodyte here is you, you absolute retard.

Yes, the literal most important invention of the modern age, was invented by a CHRISTIAN!! You can't make this **** up.

Atheist keep getting their anal gaped by my BRC (Big Religious Cock).

As per wiki on Charles Babbage:

Religious views
Babbage was raised in the Protestant form of the Christian faith, his family having inculcated in him an orthodox form of worship.[108] He explained:

My excellent mother taught me the usual forms of my daily and nightly prayer; and neither in my father nor my mother was there any mixture of bigotry and intolerance on the one hand, nor on the other of that unbecoming and familiar mode of addressing the Almighty which afterwards so much disgusted me in my youthful years.[109]

Rejecting the Athanasian Creed as a "direct contradiction in terms", in his youth he looked to Samuel Clarke's works on religion, of which Being and Attributes of God (1704) exerted a particularly strong influence on him. Later in life, Babbage concluded that "the true value of the Christian religion rested, not on speculative [theology] … but … upon those doctrines of kindness and benevolence which that religion claims and enforces, not merely in favour of man himself but of every creature susceptible of pain or of happiness."[110]

In his autobiography Passages from the Life of a Philosopher (1864), Babbage wrote a whole chapter on the topic of religion, where he identified three sources of divine knowledge:[111]

A priori or mystical experience
From Revelation
From the examination of the works of the Creator
He stated, on the basis of the design argument, that studying the works of nature had been the more appealing evidence, and the one which led him to actively profess the existence of God.[112][113] Advocating for natural theology, he wrote:

In the works of the Creator ever open to our examination, we possess a firm basis on which to raise the superstructure of an enlightened creed. The more man inquires into the laws which regulate the material universe, the more he is convinced that all its varied forms arise from the action of a few simple principles ... The works of the Creator, ever present to our senses, give a living and perpetual testimony of his power and goodness far surpassing any evidence transmitted through human testimony. The testimony of man becomes fainter at every stage of transmission, whilst each new inquiry into the works of the Almighty gives to us more exalted views of his wisdom, his goodness, and his power.[114]

Like Samuel Vince, Babbage also wrote a defence of the belief in divine miracles.[115] Against objections previously posed by David Hume, Babbage advocated for the belief of divine agency, stating "we must not measure the credibility or incredibility of an event by the narrow sphere of our own experience, nor forget that there is a Divine energy which overrides what we familiarly call the laws of nature."[116] He alluded to the limits of human experience, expressing: "all that we see in a miracle is an effect which is new to our observation, and whose cause is concealed. The cause may be beyond the sphere of our observation, and would be thus beyond the familiar sphere of nature; but this does not make the event a violation of any law of nature. The limits of man's observation lie within very narrow boundaries, and it would be arrogance to suppose that the reach of man's power is to form the limits of the natural world."[117]

I mean, maybe. If you go further back to The burning of the Alexandria, that certainly retarded human progress.

Again, at that time, religion in the UK and Sweden wasn't the kooky evangelical brand that we're dealing with today in the US and they had a much stronger belief in the separation of Church and State so religion didn't infiltrate their politics like it has here in the US.

How is good character and morals NOT be a handicap? Cheating and stealing your way to the top can bring enormous benefit for you and your family and you don't do it because ...?

Hey man, if you want to work hard and slave away for other peoples benefit and THAT gives you pleasure and satisfaction, then go for it. For me that just sounds completely illogical and wasteful considering you have one life and its all over. But that's your choice.

So let's recap what Religion has done for the dysgenic atheist:

A religious man (Charles Babbage) invented the computer, the single most important invention that resulted in the age of information.

A religious man (Alexander Flemming) invented penicillin, the single most important medical breakthrough that has saved probably billions of lives.

A religious man (Robert H. Goddard) invented the rocket, allowing man to explore the stars.

A religious man (Johannes Gutenburg) invented the printing press -- responsible for the initial age of information and literacy-- just so he can mass produce the Bible. LOL.

Please, dysgenic atheist, tell me again how religion has stifled the progress of mankind?

You're living in your make belief world.

Literally the second paragraph of Babbage's wiki:

"Babbage is considered by some to be "father of the computer".[2][3][4][5] Babbage is credited with inventing the first mechanical computer, the Difference Engine, that eventually led to more complex electronic designs, though all the essential ideas of modern computers are to be found in Babbage's Analytical Engine, programmed using a principle openly borrowed from the Jacquard loom.[2][6] Babbage had a broad range of interests in addition to his work on computers covered in his book Economy of Manufactures and Machinery.[7] His varied work in other fields has led him to be described as "pre-eminent" among the many polymaths of his century.[1]"

Turing the sodomite built on Babbage's legacy.

Cope and seethe.

The point remains: religion has never stifled progress of the mind like dysgenic atheist like to fantasize about.

Yes. Atheists have perpetuated this false narrative for far too long.

The overwhelming majority of the greatest scientific minds in human history have been religious. Same goes for mathematician, who proclaim math to be the language of God.

How many of those athletes are religious in name only?

For example, Mike Tyson a Muslim???? You kidding me??? Slept with thousands of women, cheated on all of his wives, probably didn't fast, or visit Mecca ever, did every drug imaginable, wore flashy jewelry, etc.

Red herring and strawman.

The thread never claimed that only the most strict observer of religion are capable of being GOAT tier athlete/fighters.

The thread observes that it's pretty much a 1:1 correlation that a GOAT tier combat athlete is religious.

That is to say, high T alpha males will always gravitate to God and religion, because it is inherently in his nature.

Think it was the same with the Romans. They only looked down on you if you were the giving the blow jobs, and giving up your ass.

Combat fighters are high test, low IQ. World class athletes but they don’t have it all on upstairs. Not to mention CTE just fkn lol

I’m all for religion giving one strength and guidance. It’s a good rulebook to live by but lol at believing God is up there watching down on us

They're not religious though.

And really?? Jon Jones is a fanatical Christian???

The myth that Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Spartan all participated in sodomy and that man love was wide accepted as part of the culture is nothing more than a Jewish subversion hit piece on their ancient enemies.

Congrats for falling for the "expert said" meme.
