Here's an example of RL:

I know a couple here that opted not to have kids, each earns in the 400k ballpark. Each year, their combined household charitable donations are over 100k. They feel like they were "very lucky, and want to give back, they are 'swimming in money'".

That 100k per year as a couple provides incredible utility for a charitable organization - even its predictability helps. These folks that 'opt out' can - not only barely take care of themselves - but opt out of using their talents to help others who are less fortunate than they are.

Yet spend decades and 10s of thousands of posts pontificating how their 'opting out' is the best way to live.

That's what I was getting at. Not 'Bezos or lmfao'.

They like to think they have "opted out of the rat race" and assume anyone who 'works' is 'overcome' by it. One of those posters was talking about he tried working and the stress was too much, and he hates people so didn't want to be around them. Does that sound like a healthy mental state to you? Exactly. Which is why one can't even raise his own daughter, and a few posters ITT fantasize about leeching off a wealthy woman, or marrying a divorced one who has a kid so that the ex-husband pays for his lifestyle.

Pretty much every person I've known who fully retired is rotting. "Retirement" to me is saying that they don't like their life and hated their job so much they waited years being miserable to stop working at it. I'd much rather have a job I can do every day that I enjoy and makes me money on top of what I need to pay my bills. I've seen so many examples of people just rotmaxxing or descending into alcoholism because they have no purpose in life once they "retire" - they never learned what makes them happy in the first place. I know tons of government workers who literally count years and days until they can retire, then suddenly they have no idea what to do.

Plus, 80% of the population under 40 today isn't going to have any savings to retire with so you'll see a majority of the population working until they drop dead or physically can't anymore. The future isn't bright for a lot of people.

Yup. They ignore the points that are uncomfortable to them, repeatedly. My wife and I tour the national parks across the USA and hike too, lol. Toss-up between Sequoia and Joshua Tree for me, maybe Bryce Canyon too.

Was nice hiking the Grand Canyon in person too - photos never did it justice. And on a flight back from Las Vegas to NYC the pilot did a lap with a clear sky - incredible to see from above.

Now instead of ending this with "nobody knows these feels", I expect people to understand. So that they think they are the only ones doing x or y shows their cope. Just like the OP did.

My gf has hit up a lot of national parks...wants us to hit them all together. She has a big list in a book checking them all off as she goes. Wants a road-trip back to Montana soon so maybe we'll hit some there or on the way.

I underestimated how beautiful some of them are. My wife is giving birth in the next few days (knock on wood) but we are already planning Wyoming in a few months.

We love hiking and the outdoors, kayak trips. I proposed to her on a canoe trip years ago heh.

My gf's adventurous spirit and Christian values are what first attracted me to her. Looking forward to where life takes us. I'll probably have to retire from miscing soon so I can devote more time to what we are building.
