So I'm running a wizard character with Laezel, Shadowheart and Astarion... just saw online that I rushed past Wyll in Emerald Grooves, and didn't make it to Karlach, as I'm still in the Goblin Camp lol.
Just reached level 4 after beating the first goblin boss that wanted to heal me. That fight was intense - pretty sure I could've one turn killed her if I reloaded saves, but she called for back up, which in turn called for more back up. Had 12 healing potions on my MC and 2 each for others. After that encounter, I only have 5 potions for main and 1 each for others. Went further into the library and solved a puzzle for a door in the Underdark (?) for tomorrow.
Am picking up all the items , not sure if the vendors back in Emerald Grooves will have the coin to buy everything, but yeah I'll probably upgrade my gear and what not.
Spoilers on available companions:
Spoiler!
Also, I don't want to seem like a goober but here is my Guardian for my dude that I created at the start of the game:
Spoiler!
Can't believe this game is finally finished after early access and that we get to play it now.

So Minthara is a paladin drow which is awesome, but she is one of the goblin leaders, so if you side with her, then that means you devastate the Emerald Groove, and it locks you out of letting Halsin join you (the druid leader lol).

I had my wizard force-push a guy to my rogue, who shoulder checked him into a hole in the ground. Then on the same turn the rogue ran behind another guy, vanished, then backstab critted another enemy to one shot him.
Larian deserves every bit of praise for this game, it is fantastic and potential GOTY. Also it just hit over 800k concurrent players on steam which is mindblowing for this type of game.

I didn't know you could combine the broken weapon parts, thought they were just junk to sell. I was mostly only finding the handles though, figured it out once I found a spearhead.
There are QoL things from pathfinder which I think they should have had:
Formations
Sell all junk - I'm sure that was in pathfinder
Click on the mini map and auto path there
Better drag and drop on the hotbar

Managed to slog through the Auntie Ethel crap, glad that it's over.
Gobbo camp/fortress is pretty cool so far, talking schit to manlets so they let me through just to massacre them anyway (without freaking out the whole place) for extra xp feels great.
Felt a bit bad for a tardo goblin that could apparently only say "Tribe" and offer a toast, but it is what it is, maybe consider not drinking while you're supposed to watch out for murderhobos.

We did it!!!! Hit level 6 in act 1 ... Thank god and it's a HUGE level for Lazael because she gets another feat. Torn between bumping up her ability score or picking a feat .... She's a two handed weapon user so I'm not sure if I should make her more proficient with greatswords / give her heavy armor so she adds +1 to strength as well ... or give her the feat that lets her take two dice rolls per attack and she takes the best roll from both - This one alone would make her pretty fukkin unstoppable and give her more consistent hits hnnngh. .... or do I bump up her strength to 20..... Decisions decisions .... I'm holding off her level up because I want to really weigh in on that choice lol.
Even getting to her in THAT location was a fukkin pain in the ass ... so I decided to put feather fall to my characters and bypassed the whole area by by just gliding down like a fairy poofta lmao.
Also did you meet that emo torturer in the goblin camp lol? let him whip you around and you get nice little gift from him. That entire questline was pretty fukkin hilarious ... Especially the choices you got as Bard had me rolling. I'm actually loving the bard responses to a lot of things. The goblin camp is pretty fukkin fun. So many cool little interactions and ways to do things.

I got that wand of undead and brought back that myrina's husband back from the dead as a zombie and then gave her the wand, so she has a zombie husband lol. I hope a continuation of the quest happens in later acts .... but overall it was a pretty chitty quest IMO. The ending itself is just kinda ehhhh

Although I seriously contemplated just shanking Mayrina because her screaming got really annoying really fast. I haven't even told her that her tardo brothers got themselves killed. Oh well.
Also got into a lulzy situation, left on the brainwashing mask (previously resisted Auntie) when travelling back to camp to rest, click rest, wake up, failed a roll, got brainwashed and everyone went hostile on me.

1 boss down, 2 to go. Fortunately the smoothbrain priestess thought it would be a grand idea to create a 1 v 4 situation so she got bonked. Also loaded up on explosive barrels, just gotta figure out whom I want to get Allah Akbar'd

Idk what it is, but WRPGs just make me cringe hard. Also wasn't a fan of the combat.
Also lmao don't even bother trying this natively on steam deck. Fan spins up to 7000rpm.

Spoiler!
Spoiler!
These are my choices after the farewell party. Astarion and Gale ****ged out again for some reason, had to be turned down.

Banged the frog twice after she came onto me and made out with Shart and Karlach. Did I brick anything? Am I good?

another day rotting after work
act 2(ish) i guess
explored the githyaki crech: laziel god murdered in act 1 by shadowheart
stole a gith egg and gave it to some weirdo (there was an option to punt it off the cliff, starts combat with angry bish)
met with one of the gith gods who explained more about the relic and my guardian
met guardian and told her i would love her forever and i dont believe the lies the gith god told me
murdered every single gith inside of of the creche on my way out
exploring a new area and i run into like 10 ghouls and two death knights, backup a bit and let my rogue poke at them before baiting them into a small narrow parthway. Drop a fireball and hit like 5 of them. Warrior walks through and 1 shot 4 of them in 1 turn, make it to death knights. Start fighting death knights and they start rezzing the ghouls, no problem, kill one of the death knights. death knight rezzes other death knight. I figure if i finesse it I can kill both of them on the same turn. Start running low on spells, get overwhelmed and die. Need to retry it tomorrow with Silence.
Funny enough when i hit lvl 6 i decided to take silence off of shadowheart because i hardly ever used it, picked up Cure(for poisons and paralysis)
Gave Darkness to my wizard so he can help setup attacks for my rogue. Drop darkness, sit rogue inside of darkness, sneak attack out with sword then use my double offhand crossbows.
GOTY easy

Anyone taking more tadpoles on their play through?
For party comp just have some sort of frontline character to tank and distract enemies they also deal good damage after only a few levels, and pick who ever else you find fun. Having an all ranged and fairly squishy team is kinda rough but it can be fun having to plan battles and crowd control more.

Also if you are in melee range of an archer, that archer is automatically disadvantaged on all range attacks, so basically they have to fight you.Played about 4 hours, getting the hang of it a bit. Also don't sleep on CC abilities, my cleric and wizard spend most fights either buffing or just locking down enemies, it's pretty OP.
And make sure you always check the environment. There is one fight early on where there's a bunch of enemies. You could try to take them all on, or just lure them to the nearby grease pit and cast one fireball spell. It's completely open-ended.
Last thing watch this. I'm not big on watching guides for stuff but this will explain the math for calculating the attack/damage rolls, saving throws, etc. It makes the game way more fun when you understand this stuff.

Wot dey hills .... I thought I was heading into Act 2 since I've done all the quests that I could in the main areas and they told me O'm venturing forth.....but instead I'm in a whole new zoned area that's still part of act 1 lool ... I'm trying to find the Gith encampment now. This game keeps giving lmao.
From what I've read and seen, party comp doesn't really matter too much in dnd 5e as there's no specific roles such as tank / healer. So I suppose it's entirely fine for you to take who you find interesting.
I'm a bard as well, so I'm playing the support role + pretty much getting the majority of dialogue checks and such down. So I'm either buffing or debuffing enemies. I hardly do any damage with my current build lol.
Then I have Shadowheart, who is my main buffer during battles.
Got Lazael as my biggest damage maker and she just tears through everything.
Gale is my wizard who just stands and supports Lazael through his aoe spells and what not and probably deals the second most damage.
So I guess having a varied comp is the best to go and your teammates provide that ..... But yeah, if you were to have a single of only just rangers or something I can see that as being extremely hard to do... but possible. You're gonna be severely limited just from what I see.
But as far as having specific roles go .... nahhh not really. It's not like most games where you need that wizard, tank, rogue and ranger archetypes.

WTF .... I'm now level 7! and still in the first act.
It seems kinda odd. I thought leveling up takes longer and longer as you increase, but reaching level 7 in act 1 seems kinda rushed? So you're telling the next 5 levels are going to be at a snails pace or something? Not sure what's going on here lol. That said, I'll take it if it means the next acts are gonna be brutal, so being a higher level should help.

Also people need to understand gaining a level in d&d is a significant event, unlike in Jrpg's for example.
At level 20 you're literally godlike in d&d. At level 10 you're considered to be a national hero already, etc.
