I think your point is only practically true for the polar ends:
- If you're extremely attractive, then you naturally get women and it's a positive reinforcement.
- If you're extremely ugly, you'll really struggle to get women and it'll impact your confidence.

But I generally disagree, I think it's due to social awkwardness. There was a thread on here years ago where incels would post their pics. It surprised me how the majority were above average attractiveness, but were obsessing over their looks being the issue. It's way, way easier for someone with autistic introvert tendences to blame their looks and keep focusing on that. The social awkwardness is more difficult and uncomfortable to face/solve.
