Actually it sounds like they did speak out. If the government actually did it's job and actually followed the restrictions already in place...

FBI Statement on the Shooting in Parkland, Florida
On January 5, 2018, a person close to Nikolas Cruz contacted the FBI’s Public Access Line (PAL) tipline to report concerns about him. The caller provided information about Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.

Under established protocols, the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life. The information then should have been forwarded to the FBI Miami Field Office, where appropriate investigative steps would have been taken.

We have determined that these protocols were not followed for the information received by the PAL on January 5. The information was not provided to the Miami Field Office, and no further investigation was conducted at that time.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said:

“We are still investigating the facts. I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public. It’s up to all Americans to be vigilant, and when members of the public contact us with concerns, we must act properly and quickly.

“We have spoken with victims and families, and deeply regret the additional pain this causes all those affected by this horrific tragedy. All of the men and women of the FBI are dedicated to keeping the American people safe, and are relentlessly committed to improving all that we do and how

The job that he has never proven he has held? In fact the only proof of law enforcement ever proven was him litetally bullying some kid as a mall cop... 100% srs.

A mall cop job held well before retirement age insinuating he was forced from his leo career, if he ever even had one.

Not to mention no lunatics have ever passed an LEO background check before....

Nobody will be shocked when he shoots up his ex wives work place after he snaps when she post pics of her island vacation with brad, paid for with his alimony check.

any 45 acp handgun.

Home invasion/break and enters are the most common threat to a home owner. Tight hallways and an ease of use of a handgun is more than enough to eliminate any threat that enters your home.

Rifles and shotguns are several times more effective at stopping an attacker than handguns are. They are also easier to shoot/hit with than a handgun (well, the carbine type rifles are)

There's a reason door kickers go in with rifles and not handguns.

You can make an argument for shotguns and i'd agree. Carbines i disagree. Most BAE/Home invasions happen either during the day when people are at work or at night when you're sleeping. Unless you keep your AR on your nightstand i'd say a handgun easier to conceal and draw in the split seconds an intruder enters your property at night.

The U.S. Govt cannot "declare guns outlawed" by procalamation or by passing a law at the federal level. The only way to outlaw guns is to amend the Constitution. That would be no easy chore and I am willing to bet that there aren't enough gun-hating democrats who want to actually stand up and cast a vote for the 2nd Amendment to be repealed. At that point, you are talking about hunters turning in their rifles and democrats who declare "nobody is talking about taking your guns away" literally lining up and voting to take them away.

So go for it. Get a repeal of the 2nd Amendment going. All you need it 2/3 of the House and 2/3 of the Senate to for vote for it and then 3/4 of the state legislatures. Outside of CA, I'm not sure you'd get even one to ratify, much less 3/4 of them. Of course, at the point where that comes close (if ever) then you have Civil War 2 for certain.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

Handguns are typically quicker to access. If time permits, it's always preferred to get to a long gun.
