Completely agree with everything OP is saying, can't wait to be in his shoes in 3-5 years. Aiming to witch companies at 26, make around 150k annually, then switch again at 29 to 200k.
So much delusion on the misc about using leverage and experience to increase your salary, its unreal how much to learn about the real world some of you have. Keep on preaching OP.

No way bro
This exactly what I'm talking about when I say some of you are delusional.
You haven't figured out some secret to life I hate to tell you.
If 120-150k was so easy to attain everyone would be in pushing to be a salesman. No one would even bother going into other fields.
The job prospects of salesman are not some big secret that only you have stumbled on.
I really mean congrats when I say it to you. But what's really aggravating (and I know your intentions here aren't malicious but the feelings still remain) is the condescending attitude toward the rest of us by claiming it's easy to make 150k. It's demeaning just to assume no ones trying because it was easy for you to land 150k.
Clearly he has a limited understanding of the earning potential people make selling SaaS and PaaS solutions to companies. This exactly what I'm talking about when I say some of you are delusional.

The reason we make so much is because the lack of job security and the "stress", but its easy as fuk to manage especially as a 25yo bachelor. Our Enterprise guys in the Australia office clear $220k OTE annually, one of the guys I work with just closed a $615,000 AUD deal with a bank. THATS why its worth it for software companies to pay the big bucks.

Networking is easier than you think... Imagine your career as climbing a wall. I always scratch my head when there are people out there trying to climb it alone. Ask a guy further up the wall for a hand up, most of them would be happy to say yes. You could even be a better climber than them, just unfortunate position in the wall. Doesn't matter. Ask for that hand up.

In the SaaS world we call it "headhunting". Companies will often try to poach talent from their partners and competition, paying them wayyyy more than they make at their current gig. The leverage is unbelievable. I'm sure Hadtodoit knows what I am talking about.
Guessing this applies to many other fields at well. GET A GODDAMN LINKEDIN!

Travel gets old but I don't travel much, once a month is about the max I like to handle, and a couple days per trip. I do about a trip every 45-50 days now.

He could not be any more correct. Thanks for backing up what I've been saying. I swear on everything, I get a recruiter reaching out to me about 3 times per month for a 200k job.
That's absolutely no joke. Search how many times I've mentioned LinkedIn in this thread. I try to tell friends occasionally to build one... a year later, nothing. This is what leads me to believe they aren't trying fully.
You might as well be applying for a job without a resume and just saying "hey, I don't need one of those right?" if you don't have one.

what I meant is at any given company there is more pressure on the net new logo closing reps, compared to the guys watching the servers and the IT guys on the back end. know what i mean?

GJ bro, I struggled in my teens as well. I was very baby-faced and somewhat shy.
Moved interstate, and am now wrecking it in almost every aspect of my life. Have traveled extensively over 4 continents, banged girls I never thought i'd get the chance with, learned two languages, learned guitar, found a few really good mates, and I'm just a few hurdles away from an MD. Most of all I'm happy that I haven't settled and have years of freedom ahead of me
.
Would love for my occasional melancholia to disappear and to become closer to my family but that's a work in progress.
To my younger bretheren i'd like to say just remember that you're drawn to do a lot of things by your ego/competition. So think about what you really want and set small manageable goals. Then go do them.

I think I'm on my 4th manager in 5 years and all of them are respectable people, wouldn't apply pressure other than to wish me luck and offer their assistance. You have to be a smart guy to get into that type of management and they generally know that type of support provides the best results.

How did you stay motivated all these years?
I consider myself to be fairly smart, in a good school and a good program, but some days I lose all motivation and just LDAR. How do I stay focused to keep grinding in the hours everyday?
Also, how easy are the sloots when you hit over 100k?

software is goat
build once, sell many. Costs the same if it's 10 or 10,0000. Nothing but pure profit. Ask microsoft.
Software for industries is where it's at, not dot com inventions. Where I get all my contracts (all through connecftions, so don't forget - it's all about who you know. Rich people help you get rich).
With html5, ajax, angular, jquery ui, bootstrap and now everyone wants their websites to look hip and modern. I turn down more work than I can do cuz I have a small team cuz it's so hard to find good talent i trust.

Thanks brahs, this type of stuff made my night. Didn't include usernames. This and multiple PMs saying thanks made me happy I made the thread.
I won't delete it, I'll be back on tomorrow if I get a chance to answer any more questions I can and give advice if I can. We need more motivating threads. Finding a good position is completely within reach of anyone who has the right advice.
I'm a miscer just like you guys.

Some days I'm completely not productive. I think the key is realizing that everyone does that. Success doesn't mean waking up super early, and working your ass off. People think it does and they go "Ughh, I really don't want to do that..." but that's not what it is. It doesn't mean that. It truly truly truly doesn't. It's very small, relatively easy steps. It's working on your LinkedIn profile here and there and improving it, looking at others and taking the best parts of theirs and molding yours to be a good version of theirs. It's some days doing jack sh!t but playing video games or getting trashed and hanging out with friends. It's some days trying to get some sort of "good job" from your boss to record and use to your advantage. Some days it's staying late.
Mostly, it's just asking for that hand up climbing the wall (if you read my post earlier).

Hey OP... very inspiring story. Motivates me to push harder with my life, be positive, and maintain my eyes on the "prize"
Rate my journey so far, brah....
Before 18
- Very shy and quiet in high school
- Was a whiteknight
- No real sense of style
- Relatively low self-esteem and didn't know how to express myself
- Didn't know how to talk to girls in high school, even though some liked me
- Almost failed high school, and just barely scraped into uni
After high school
- Began doing things to improve my confidence, such as lifting at the gym and meeting new people
- Went to many parties at uni etc
- Volunteered at various community needs, such as kinds with disabilities, abuse victims at the city law courts, mentoring 1st year uni students
- Having my first g/f a few years ago at the age of 24
- Learning the art of the "game", and taking part in the pump and dump lifestyle (been with 33 women up to present date)
- Finished a BSc (Biomedical), BA (Psychology), Masters degree (Forensics), Grad Dip (Sleep Science)...
- Entered a Doctor of Dentistry program.... earning a $200,000 scholarship (against 500 other applicants for these coveted 20 places)
- Dream now is to successfully complete this by the age of 31, with an immediate graduate full-time salary of $100k/year
Future
- Set up dental surgery business
- Reach a salary upwards of $250k-$300k/year... justice after having spent 13 full-time year at university lmao
- Get a nice house
- Meet a HBB, smart, and interesting girl along the way...
- Work a maximum of 4 days a week (after I'm 35 years old)... a max of 35-40 hrs a week. A key reason why I chose dentistry over medicine.
- Raise a family with financial comfort and an excellent work/life balance
- Holiday trips each year
- Give back to the community however I can. Perhaps teach at university, work in some impoverished areas etc.

I'm beginning to realize that any smart dude can head down the tried and true "path" of a great college education plus an MD/JD/MBA, then a prestigious and high paying job and eventually retire with a house and ~$5m after a full career of 60+ hour weeks. The real impressive cases are when people make it without a blue-chip college education and professional degree, without going into a on of the typical prestigious industries (finance/consulting, tech/engineering, law, medicine), without working at least 60 hours a week or when you're still young.
For example, I'm 18 now, I'll be in college from 19 to 22, military from 23 to about 26, business school for two years following that, then start working at about 29. By the time I'm your age, I won't have a house or car and probably won't even have a positive net worth (dat der bschool debt). Sure, I'll be in the position to pay down my debts, land a well paying job and do well for myself while avoiding a lot of the risk you took on, but it would still probably take me like 3 more years to land the first promotion and get to the ~$250k/year level (in finance/consulting), and even then, I would be working at least double what you are.
I guess a huge benefit of following the path is that you build a resume that gives you a lot more flexibility in terms of "exit-opps" because you build a resume with respected names on it. It's also more scaleable because you'll eventually be able to make partner and earn $500k-$1mm+/year, where someone is a sales position realistically won't be able to increase their sales to the point where they earn much more than you do right now. The downside is that it takes a whole career to get to the point where the difference in pay becomes significant and the difference in hours becomes insignificant.
TL;DR: I always mire guys like you who make it while they're young, don't work crazy hours, don't have an elite educational background and don't work in a typical field... but I'd rather take the safe route.

Good for you man. Very encouraging thread, I read every bit.
New question.. What are your beliefs about religion/reason for existence? And Do you feel your views would be different if you weren't so successful?
