But in response to your re-thinking cops, dude don't be that guy.
I'm sure you've had a bad experience with a waitress/waiter, bartender, barber, etc. Having an incident with one cop doesn't mean chit for them overall. It's a job that attracts some people who are downtrodden and feel like they've never had power, then they get that and get be susceptible to be douche bags. I think that's a very small number of cops. It's like any job, there's gonna be people that are different from all ends of the spectrum.
I've had several, think more than dozens, of interactions with LEO's and have probably had 1 or 2 chitty experiences. One was recently. I chalked it up to a few things.
Maybe he's just one of those douche bags. Oh well.
Maybe bad day at the office/home life. It happens to the best of us.
More related to that recent experience where he was a dick, I understand the climate towards cops in this country. People hate them for their job, certain people want them dead, and they have become villains. They have to maybe act less friendly and keep their guard up more because they don't know who wants them dead. They have friends and a family they want to go home to.
Bottom line. These guys have taken a beating lately from all sides, and it's not even close to fair. Some are becoming calloused towards all the public because of it. Others have done the job a while and are calloused because of only seeing the chit side of people. And the lowest percentage were calloused before the job, then went into it with the idea they can finally have power.
You did good OP. You did all the right things. I've heard worse horror stories. He really wasn't that bad at all. I wouldn't even put him in the douche bag category of cops. I would say you had an incident that seemed out of the norm, but at the end of the day he cut you a break without a ticket after doing a frisk/search. Whether it was based on what he said or not, imagine him getting a stolen gun or meth off the street using that tactic.

I've had like 5 experiences just like you op, and once I needed cops help for legit reasons (I was robbed of $6,000), and they were useless pigs, did not help me at all, did not give me any info, just told me they will look into it even tho I have the thief's address
fyi I took that robber to small claims court, he never showed up obvs now i have a claim against him, I did the right thing and handled it the legal route and I wish I would have just hired an assassin to kill this guy lol

In Florida by case law you are required to get out and the passenger is detained during a traffic stop. You are detained during the stop, you cannot refuse a lawful order to step out of the vehicle.
Seems alot of anti-cop sentiments in this thread, which makes me chuckle. If you didn't do anything that terrible, have nothing to hide, and are a law abiding citizen, why be an a-hole to a cop doing his job?
You are part of the reason that cops are on edge and more irritable, because they have to deal with jackasses who think they know it all.
I've gladly let cops search me, my car, and even give me field sobriety tests because I'm not guilty of anything. I have no reason to give them chit.

I thought unless they had probable cause for a search, like someone banging on the inside of your trunk, they need a warrant to search without your permission.
