a keychain flip knife is a lot better than trying to use keys.. its surprisingly hard to do much damage with a key unless youre going for eyes, and even then a woman going for a guys eyes isn't going to go well when she can't breathe or has fists connecting with her face

Reminds me of a time in BJJ where a girl kickboxer stayed after to try some BJJ and seemed to have a chip on her shoulder about grappling in general. She thought eye gouging could trump anything a guy could do in grappling, but when we put it to the test she quickly saw how stupid that was, especially when she couldn't breathe.

I grew up in Finland which was the safest place on earth. Now I live in LA, still can't get myself to the mindset of being aware. I do one of my volunteer programs in the University, always walk by myself at nights, and take a bus. Even when someone's picking me up, I'll tell them to pick me up from a gas station or something cause I like walking. I also walk in my neighborhood, at nights, by myself, so much that strangers come tell me all the time that they see me walking.

I was in the city not too long ago and I forgot my keys at the dorm of a person I was visiting, it was like 3 AM and as I'm walking back towards the dorm, some guy is walking towards me in the city of Chicago and is staring right at me (nobody else was around, at this time at least 10 deaths were happening daily by gun shooting and assaults near these school), could have easily been a gang banger. Tried not to make eye contact for too long, only thing I was worried about was if he had a gun or not. Didn't even want to look at him, but the second I did, he was looking right back at me. I looked at him as soon as we got close by one another, maybe I should have glanced earlier.

Point is, people may feel threatened or act on you staring at them as if you're trying to start something. Look at? glance at? ok, but stare? that's like a "yo bro, if you're a reckless human being that we call gangbanger, try me with your glock boyo I'm staring at you hard af, try me bro" to them.

I'm very aware depending of what city I'm at and I'm a big dude. I grew up in Potomac where nothing ever happened. When I lived in Baltimore for school really made me change the way I think. At night I look at anyone sketch and keep my distance. I've gotten into fights over absolutely nothing at night in CP just because people are drunk. It got to a point though where I could walk down Bmore in even sketch areas and not really be scared because I didn't stick out and I was used to it. When I go somewhere new though like Philly bet your ass I'm on high alert.

One time in Houston I was walking through bars with 2 girls and one of them said "this is awesome I don't even have to feel scared or worry because of your size and your with us". That chit came from absolutely no where and stuck with me. So women do keep on high alert. Guess if I were 5'2-5'5" I'd always be scared. Either way night time people get jumped and robbed.

You should always be aware of your surroundings. Doesn't matter if you're a male or female. I always remember where the closest exit to a building is and always try to ensure I have a clear path. I also walk with confidence and with purpose. Usually that is enough to keep people away from me. It sucks there are some people out there that prey on weaker people.
