i read the book and I definitely like it. I wouldn't consider it something you have to study but a read through though. Something to remind you about the common sense stuff because we all forget it. All of us. There are some things

My favorite take aways are:
- To live is to suffer. EVERYBODY has problems. Even the happy guy down the street. His problems are just 'better' than your problems.
-- The goal is to not get rid of problems because not only are they apart of life but they help build your character. You can't erase problems, you can only deal with them. And this new age 'feel good' stuff is actually causing more problems because instead of people fixing their problems, they are ignoring it. Causing more problems.
- You are responsible for your life - you are always choosing what to do. For example: It might not be your fault that you're sad but it's your responsibility to deal with the sadness. You might not choose to do anything about it but that, in itself, is a choice.
- You're going to die one die so stop giving too many ****s
- Learn to say no. If you are about one thing then you are not about the opposite of that thing. For example: you have a girlfriend so you are now about anything thats not girlfriend. For example: a girl is texting you flirting. Well, you value you're girlfriend and that girl is not your girlfriend so you no it. (common sense but for some reason i enjoyed reading it)

Things I didn't like:
- The chapter that says your mind is wrong. Okay yeah, my mind plays telephone but so what? What are you trying to say? He wasn't clear on that imo

Definitely recommend it. Something you should have an audio book and listen to it like 2-3 times a year to remind you, you choose what you give a **** about. I'm more into books that have exercises in it so there's structure. Maybe I like that style just cause i've been in school for so long

As a few others have mentioned, I believe I've passively been a stoic my whole life. A number of people close to me have called me a stoic because of my demeanor and approach to life.
I'm interested in the idea of actively practicing stoicism though. I'll definitely take a look through some of OPs resources.

no way. i had no idea this was a thread.

i am not a stoic as i don't fully commit myself to any one philosophy, as i believe taking the things that resonate with me from different sources and applying them in my life works best

but this is one of my favourite books

Picked up "The Daily Stoic" and am reading it a page a day for 2018. It's next to the coffee maker so I start my day with a little brain food.

I'm FAR from perfect but a daily dose of this stuff helps me be more even minded.

i find it difficult to commit to a path toward a goal, while also holding in the back of my mind that the goal is of limited importance (or in part beyond my control). i think ben said it another way, bruce springsteen says to himself before every concert "this is the most important concert i will ever do, but it's only rock n roll".

Have had a guide to the good life for ages but have decided to read other books over it.

Decided to have a look up on mediations and fk me I have ordered it off amazon after reading parts of book 2, reading some of the quotes has honestly hit me so hard

"Whatever this is that I am, it is flesh and a little spirit and an intelligence. Throw away your books; stop letting yourself be distracted. That is not allowed. Instead, as if you were dying right now, despise your flesh. A mess of blood, pieces of bone, a woven tangle of nerves, veins, arteries. Consider what the spirit is: air, and never the same air, but vomited out and gulped in again every instant. Finally, the intelligence. Think of it this way: You are an old man. Stop allowing your mind to be a slave, to be jerked about by selfish impulses, to kick against fate and the present, and to mistrust the future."

I think books can be replaced with many different things now but still what a quote. Gonna read this alongside another book by Shad Helmstetter i'm reading.

Hopefully reading meditations before "A guide to the good life" won't effect its read.

currently reading seneca's "letters from a stoic"

this is a great book that applies practical knowledge on how to develop a stoic mindset. its so impressive to read and capture the essence of seneca, his philosophy can teach a brah so much. in my estimation, the great thing about stoicism is that its techniques can be used in many situations and give you determination, resistance, tranquility and peace of mind.

poverty cliffs of the book:
-contains seneca's letters to lucilius, a friend of his
-talks about stoic principles, how to deal with loss, death, illness
-explains why you shouldn't fear change, shows that you can be the master of your mind/soul
-indicates that defeat cannot bring a man down who confronts his fears and accepts things out of his control

must-read for every stoic brah and modern men that lack guidance and male idols.

RIP

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of his death ~1,838 years ago.

Marcus Aurelius was Roman emperor from 161 to 180, ruling jointly with Lucius Verus until Verus' death in 169 and jointly with his son, Commodus, from 177. He was the last of the so-called Five Good Emperors.

Born: April 26, 121 AD, Rome, Italy

Died: March 17, 180 AD, Vindobona, Austria

Sculpture of Roman emperor found in unusual locale

Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered an extremely rare marble head depicting the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius.

The head, which shows the emperor with wavy hair and a beard, was discovered in the city of Aswan in southern Egypt, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities. In a ******** post, Dr. Ayman Ashmawy, head of the Ministry’s Ancient Egyptian Antiquities Sector, described the find as unique, noting that it is rare to find statues of the Roman emperor in Egypt.

Egypt Independent reports that the head was found when experts were reducing the level of groundwater at the Kom Ombo temple in Aswan. The head was discovered in a well next to the temple, according to LiveScience.

Aurelius, who lived in the 2nd century A.D., is also famous for his involvement in philosophy. A famed practitioner of stoic philosophy, the emperor’s writings are collected in the work “Meditations.”

Marcus Aurelius was a cuck who promoted the dude who was banging his wife, Faustina. His teachings are still good though, and they will help you cope with life the way he coped with dudes busting a nut in the woman he loved.

Those rumors may have started after Faustina's death due Commodus' unpopularity. Verdict is still out on their truth.
