If I were Luc1fer, my answer would be that sometimes admiral shares via Vanguard actually have a lower expense ration than ETFs.

See VTSAX and VTIAX, unless they recently changed, one of them (forget which) had a slightly better ER than VTI and VXUS, which are the ETF equivalents.
Neither of those funds are cheaper. I've actually never seen a vanguard fund (ex-institutional class) that is cheaper than an ETF from an ER perspective. They are usually the same. Also, you're required to make larger investments though, so it's not as easy to sort of isolate factor exposures using a few funds cheaply like you could w/ an ETF. You'd need much deeper pockets.

I wouldn't recommend an active fund for most cases, but it depends on what you're investing in. I wouldn't recommend an active manager ever for a large cap domestic strategy, I'd be unlikely to recommend active for any domestic strategy, but you can certainly make a sound argument for it in small cap and style corhorts of the market. There is definitely room for active management in the bond market. There is definitely room for active in EM equities and debt.

Let me explain, using my prize possession that is, EasyJet:




For a long time, EZJ was hovering around the 1000 mark, fluctuating from 975 to 1025. This continued for a significant period until ex div date on 23rd February 2017 came along.

Here EZJ bottomed out at 914.50 due to the dividend being paid out to those who held.

OP did not hold. Instead... OP decided to buy at close of play missing that particular dividend.

Why isn't he worried you ask? Well, look at the chart...

The stock has risen to a ridiculous level since OP bought the bottom. OP will be eligible to the next dividend in 6 months time. OP makes woke money medium-term investing EZJ and picking up dividends at MUCH HIGHER price value than he bought into!

Just cashed out Mediclinic at 25% return

Dentist brah messaged me saying "Fuarkkkk my 24K would have been worth £30,000 with how confident you were in that"

Fund is going well at over 4% in less than 2 months and took a quick 5% profit on RPC Group.

Hikma has taken a massive tumble recently pending FDA approval so the 7%ish I was up, would currently be about -10% down. But I cashed out at 3% positive and I'm looking to buy in big at the bottom again
