Graduated with BA in 2009. The first professional level job i got (unrelated to major) was 32k/year about 6 months after graduation. Another 6 months i got bumped to 38k and soon followed by 46k. Not bad at 23 years old.
I have little sympathy for people tbh i had 5 employees and tried to train them all to take my job when I moved on to bigger and better and only one of them was interested in learning more and making more money. The other guys didn't have motivation to do better and now they're still working chit jobs for no money except the guy who wanted thr promotion-- he's killing it at a new company making more than me now iirc.

Some of us are lazy. Baby boomers screwed us over, job salaries are stagnant or drop while the cost of everything goes up. Its a combination of a lot of crap. Its very possible to rise above it all but its def not easy.
Its not surpriseing and idk why a lot of you are shocked. The few outliers you know in real life or on the misc doesnt negate the fact that hundreds of thousands are experiencing the exact oposite. Its a serious issue that needs to get looked at.

There are many problems converging which are the cause of such crappy wages and failing economy.
1. Baby boomers dominate the top positions. Good luck advancing when you've got a bunch of boomers and all their buddies just kicked back collecting a paycheck.
2. Milleanials+ are lazy
3. Pay is largely determined by a degree or piece of paper, not ability. I know plenty of blue collar workers that are 100x smart/sharper than the people in the office making 3x as much. That is simply societal inefficiency. We've placed too much value on degrees and now it has over saturated and causing major issues.
4. Globalism. You're now competing with the best and brightest in the world.
5. Nobody wants to admit how chitty things have become and how broken the system is ... so they just chit on it even more.
However, you aint seen nothing yet. When all those baby boomers are forced to start taking distributions from their retirement accounts ... it's gonna be fun times with the stock market and economy. This is the first time in history the previous generation is much larger than the current generations. When they start retiring, getting sick, dieing ... things are going to get bad. I for one don't expect the slack-jawed *******s of my generation to pick up the slack real well.

A lot of baby boomers had to go back to school in order to maintain their positions, so let's not pretend that the Baby boomers are taking all of the jobs from these Millenial College grads without having to spend a lot of money, spend years back in school, as well as not getting an increase in compensation for it. Millenials are the reason why baby boomers had to go back to school too!!
Example; my mother is getting close to retirement. She has about 8 more years left. A few years ago, she had to go back for her masters in nursing in order to maintain her position as a nurse manager, even though she had already been doing the job, and well, I might add, for about 15 years. That's longer than Millenials have even been in the work force!
Granted, you won't hear me say too many nice things about baby boomers though. Largely they are hippie liberals and a majority are ill prepared for retirement because they spend money just as fast as they make it. This is one reason why the social security debate is such a hot topic. Baby boomers don't understand how SS works, along with the fact that they think it's a cot dumb retirement plan. In fact, they are the ones that set all of this in to motion in the first place. Luckily the next generation, according to polls, are showing a very large number of them are conservatives. Probably because they see how jacked up our country has become.

Many millennials aren't driven by money and therefore don't bother trying to earn it. Why do you need money when mom and dad pay your rent, car payment, cell phone bill, food, etc?

I pulled out some of my old pay stubs from a few years ago when i was making $9/hr(min wage) and i was bringing in $900-$1000 every 2 weeks. So thats about $23k a year after taxes. Mind blown.
I like the tuna here.

You do learn how to adjust to how much you're making, though. I make 5 times that now, and I still have most of my poverty life habits. Helps save money. Although, now I can afford to have a sweet car and eat at restaurants occasionally.

If you make $150k and complain you can't make it living in San Francisco, you are definitely doing something wrong. Even paying $5000/mo rent you still should have plenty of money left over.
