WTF, the whole point of a credit lock is to try stop someone from getting a loan in your name.

Not for nothing, but this is dumbest bullchit I've ever seen.

Your information was just stolen, and you're gonna wait around for 5 years to MAYBE get $20 in a class-action lawsuit? You won't make much money, guy.

I think signing up for their software for a year to save yourself from getting your identity stolen is much more valuable than 20 dollars. Jesus Christ.

Gotta go to all three websites and do it each. You can also a fraud alter notification for 90 days, if you request it from one org, it will be set up by all three. However, you have to freeze each one individually. Each state has a separate fee for un-freezing your credit if you need to make a major purchase. In that scenario, ask the sales rep which bureau they go through so you only have to unfreeze one for as little as 24 hours.

except THEIR SOFTWARE is obviously good for chit when it comes to identity theft. It's literally like paying a criminal to help you recover your things after your home was robbed by that exact same idiot. You expect good results?

IS THERE A 3RD PARTY WAY FOR ME TO FREEZE MY CREDIT OUTSIDE OF THIS CHITTY COMPANY?

No, only way to freeze your credit is to call up or go to their websites of all the 3 credit companies .

- And yes you have to freeze all 3. Freezing just one won't keep you safe

What chit timing. I'm in the middle of buying a house. Luckily all the credit checks and chit came back with nothing suspicious. Can't freeze anything for a minute.

I find it hilarious/ironic/sad that out of the three bureau's freeze websites, Equifax is the only website that 1) doesn't allow you to hide your SSN as you type it and 2) doesn't allow you to set your own pin - they generate one for you that you have to use. Not that either of those are huge deal in the grand scheme of things... just kinda funny.

Do I freeze my credit if I plan to get 1 or 2 student loans in the next year or two?

Otherwise, whats my best course of action? To get a credit monitoring service? Which is the best?

Just use CreditKarma, plus the free services the 3 agencies are providing (or at least 2 of them let you do soft locks in their software online).

I cba with a full freeze.

lol thx...also For them to make this mistake is srs fawk up. At this point they should just shut it down or rename their company

- What you could do in the mean time is get a free copy of your credit report and see if anything is wrong with it (any new accounts or inquires you don't recognize)

Fuark, I just had to deal with an identity theft issue that's lasted a year now, and I STILL have to call the damn bank and request for a letter to show the credit bureaus that I got fukked so they can reverse the damage.

Fukking great I may be impacted. Looks like I'll just have to freeze everything... Can I unfreeze if I want to open a new line of credit (or a loan), then refreeze it again?

Yes but with everything there's a fee (hopefully new laws are passed that allows it to be free soon)

- I'm glad that you shared your struggle with identity theft. Many people think that it's not a big deal and just a simple quick fix. They have no idea how much of a headache it really is

There are loans that do not require a credit check.

-Paystub (you can fake)
-Identity (that was just stolen)

Sure, it wont be a crazy big loan but you can do a couple before getting caught.

Locked my credit report via Equifax (TrustedID)andTransUnion (TrueIdentity)- both free. Not as good as a full freeze I guess, but good enough for a few clicks.

Experian isn't free though, so I haven't done anything with it yet:https://www.experian.com/consumer-pr...reditlock.html

Make sure you do, have to freeze all 3 to benefit from freezing your reports.

A lot of companies use Experian to make decision on leading

God damn, it's $10 to freeze and then another $10 to thaw.
