SCARFACE (1932 version) - This movie is actually very boring as fuk. Hardly any action, even though all the write ups on this movie single it out for being overly violent. After I watched it, I thought that maybe I was watching a censored version, but I wasn't.
I agree V for Vendetta sucks balls but I don't think we can even consider it a classic.

those are all pretty overrated classics except maybe for the Godfather because it was a groundbreaking film back then

I can't believe some people calling movies like Once Upon a Time in The West and Apocalypse Now overrated, they're timeless classics

So our disagreement lies in the interpretation of the word 'classic'.

To me, a 'classic' movie is one that can be watched over and over and still enjoyed. I've seen Dumb and Dumber like 100 times but still laugh at it when I see it on. It's a comedy classic.

I don't really care what Blade Runner achieved or the effect it had on films that came after it if I didn't really enjoy the movie itself all that much. I do think the 'tears in rain' scene was excellent though.
I call it "Celebration". It's sexual, and violent...

The Godfather is a classic with Goodfellas and Scarface as honorable mentions. Casino is not on the list.

Cinema appreciation. Like its big brother Art Appreciation you have to know a bit about how things are developed or simply how its made.

Even so, having anappreciationfor something doesn't mean you have to "like it", rather, just that you should recognize and give credit to the work that went into its creation and development.

Just like anything there are fundamentals to how movies are made that defines their quality, and when it comes to film, "Citizen Kane" ticks every box. There's a reason why its been voted the best movie ever made for so long.

I almost put Blade Runner on my original list but didn't want to defend myself. Looks like there are other haters.

One old film I think aged very well given its age that I haven't seen in this thread:

Paths of Glory

I don't think the reaction was as universally positive in its time either. Maybe my sweeping criticism of Hitchcock is favoritism towards Kubrick.

That's something I consider a lot. Some films don't age well, others do. Now that I think about it, if a film doesn't age well, then it was probably thrilling because of the concept, not because it was actually done well.
