Difference is, officels relax in an air conditioned cube with free coffee, internet, snacks, etc. Tradies are actually WORKING for their money fixing chit/piss pipes, crawling through some rat infested air duct, or working outside in temps of 100 degrees or 10 below.

That's awesome, I have always said college admissions shouldn't start until age 20. Kids should have a few years to go out and work and figure out what they want to do, also start saving money if theydowant to go to university.

College isn't for everyone, but neither are the trades. I would maybe take a side gig doing carpentry but I would personally never do even that full-time. I work for a City and government benefits are GOAT.

A lot of electricians and plumbers only work on new construction homes/buildings. The real money isn't in going out to someones house and spending a few hours repairing minor issues. If I'd have known this **** at 18 I'd have become a tradie, networked, and started my own company ASAP.

Absolutely.

1. Its rare to see guys that have been behind a desk for 20-30 years to be in good shape and healthy. Its not rare at all to run into tradies in their 50s that are still lean and strong (no homo). Humans aren't meant to sit down in a chair for hours on end every day.


2. The real key is spend 10-20 years building your skill-set/knowledge then branch off and become self employed and have younger guys working for you. If you don't want to be self employed then you just build your knowledge/skills and eventually become a supervisor/manager for a larger company.


My buddy is the same age as me and he spends his day driving around in an 80k truck to different construction sites just managing. 32 year old tradie with a HS degree (been in the industry since he was 16 working for his dad) and the engineers and people that own companies have to answer to him/ are under his supervision.

In our region, a lot of young guys go into the trades and think they're hot chit for making $25/hr in small towns where everybody else makes $15. Then they find out that the "seasonal" unemployment is actually October through April and that it happens every year, get sick of paying the union for the privilege of buying their own tools and driving all over hell's half-acre for work at their own expense so they can stand in the sun all day and end up with a face that looks like a ballsack and an opioid addiction at 45, so they end up in the Chobani plant making $12 with everybody else and that's where they dead end.

There's nothing wrong with the trades, but I make a lot more than $90k tonotstick my head in somebody else's toilet on nights and weekends, and I am more than content with that.

Here in Texas some of us made 110k last year just being journeyman. Those guys are usually really good salesman though.

Yea I never stuck my head in anyone’s toilet brother, but yea good for you I never really had the opportunity to go to college so I picked up whatever trade I could cause I didn’t wanna be a broke fuk.

Personally I joined a local union when I was 20yo and did a 5y apprenticeship WHILE attending college classes on nights and weekends... I walked away from that with a Journeyman plumbers license and a degree in Mechanical Engineering... I used my field experience and contacts within the industry to eventually go to work designing Mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial buildings. I still keep my Plumbing license current but haven't actually had to use it since 2006. There is a lot of money to be made if your hustle is 100...

I work for 10 days at a time. While I'm at work everything is covered. I cant have a drink after work. They pay me very well to basically own me for those 10 days. They also pay me well because I know what I'm doing and arent gonna let some dumb ass messing around with their 10 billion dollar sand box. A mistake could easily mean blowing something up especially since I'm actually having safety devices turned off to do my job (I'm in management but I'm still responsible for everything the people that are working for me are doing).

They are obviously paying us pretty well.

The real money is in project management. Spend a few years on a job site and see how everything runs. My buddies dad is a carpenter and did that. He had 5 employees and was doing around $75 million a year in business. He bids on the job and is the prime contractor. He has a project manager at the job who basically keeps things running between all the sub contractors.
