Eh, I think the misc was born on reps and us all being complete idiots. This is different from other sections of the site, the misc is where we go to escape reality and ask the hard hitting questions, and expecting complete and utter ass responses.

I like the rep system and thinks it adds something to the equation that's positive.

However, I have to agree with OP that some "high reppers" contribute next to nothing. I'm confused how some of them got so many reps to begin with. In the end I think keeping the rep system is a good thing, but capping or resetting people after a certain point is a good thing as well. I've noticed that there is a "critical mass" of reps that once you hit it, you are basically untouchable and people rep you for nothing just in hopes of getting a powerful rep back. And then you have guys like RichStrong, Procta and Muzzl who I wish I could rep more but the damn spread system kicks in.

The biggest problem we have with the rep system is the hazing of new members. I know we get a lot of trolls, but sometimes a sincere person signs up and is run off by all the negs and sht testing they get at first.
I don't know if it would be hard to do but I would support new users having better training wheels- as in you can't get negged prior to 50 posts. Yeah, it would be advantageous to some persistent trolls, but those accounts could be reported if you have been here long enough to recognize them.
