Best idea I've heard is to establish a separate court of law for police misconduct, same as the military has. Don't leave it up to crooked local departments or DA's.

But you still have to let the damn police protect themselves and their community.
Agree with the separate court for police misconduct. Absolutely ridiculous that cops are investigating cops when they fukk up

They also need to raise physical standards. Half of police shootings are cause these cops don't even lift.

Also they should make cops work a certain number of hours on foot. To actually get to know the community they are "protecting"

Police have killed bunch of innocent people, and some rules of conduct have to be changed. I remember the poor guy that swat was called on after an online game, the guy was killed on his porch. Here is the article.

"As officers surrounded his house, a completely unaware Finch, lowered his hands and was shot. He later died in hospital, officials said."

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-a9105591.html

"Justin Rapp, Officer, Wichita Police Department; originally stated he believed Finch had a gun, but testified in May 2018 that he merely saw Finch make a motion with his hand"

"The Sedgwick County district attorney, Marc Bennett, has announced that no charges would be brought against Officer Justin Rapp"

The Wichita police officer who fatally shot an unarmed man during a prank emergency call is suing the city for more than $31,000 in wages he says he lost while he was kept from returning to his regular police duties and a city-approved off-duty security job.

Step two is a federal oversight committee that can oversee these incidents and make sure bad cops aren't moving a state or two away and getting hired. Can't have police policing the police.

So here's the thing, standards have been getting dropped for police hiring across the country already for the sole purpose of increasing the numbers of women and minorities who make it into the ranks. You hike the standards back up, guess what happens to the diversity of the department? You won't have both high standards and high diversity among the officers

How about a simple one: if you have complaints against an officer, actually investigate them and punish the officer, and it's a three strikes you're out rule. The guy who killed Floyd had 18 active complaints against him, and another of the four had 6. It's ridiculous they were even still in uniform.

Also, and this would be impossible because of the union, but if a cop is suspended due to misuse of force its' done without pay automatically. If you hit them in the paycheque cops might think twice about hurting another person.
You realize complaints can encompass a broad spectrum of police citizen contact right? I could be the nicest guy in the world and give you a speeding ticket for being 15MPH over the limit, expressly showing you my radar gun and if you don’t happen to like the tone of my voice file a complaint against me.

Now they’ll review the body cam footage and determine that I did nothing wrong but because a person got their feelings hurt I now have a complaint attached to my file whether it was unfounded or not.
No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

-Change burden from "reasonable expectation the officer's life is in danger" to "has exhausted all other alternatives". Getting actively shot at? Gotta try pepper spray first, THEN a verbal warning, THEN your gun.

-Require police to report anytime their gun is drawn from the holster. Know the guy ahead of you is driving a stolen vehicle and confirmed armed? It's gonna be four hours of paperwork if you do a traditional felony stop.

I truly had been hoping for some useful ideas. This isn't it.
Based on this, here's my opinions.

- Police should not have to identify they will shoot in an active combat or armed situation, too much risk, time, and potential for them getting killed. If a guy has a gun, that's endangering people and he/she should be stopped. If they have a knife and they charge you, maybe you could shoot them in the leg to incapacitate them. If they have no weapons and charge you with fists, you shouldn't need a gun and have a taser/pepper spray. In an unarmed situation, the police should identify they have a weapon and will use it if they are forcefully attacked. If a cop shoots without stating they will in an unarmed situation, they should be fired and charged. If a cop is unsure if the person has a weapon, they should state that they have a weapon, and may shoot if attacked.

- Pulling out your gun is sometimes a deterrent for people not to reach for something, however, pointing your gun at someone can lead to you just pulling the trigger and blasting someone. I watched a video today where a guy crashed his car in an accident and a cop pulled up. The guy (I believe he was white) was trying to climb out of the wreck and the cop pulled his pistol out, shot him in the spine, and paralyzed him for life. Guy wasn't trying to run, just trying to get out of the destroyed car. I could see some implementation of a tracking device. Whenever the gun is removed from the holster it registers how long it was out for. You can then be questioned why it was pulled, why it was out for however long, and if shots were fired. If the government gives someone a deadly weapon, they have the right to know why and how it is being used. If you pull out your gun for something stupid, you should be punished accordingly.

- In regards to the burden, if a guy shoots at you, you can shoot him, simple as that. Also I'm starting to relate these to the physical fitness of officers. If you are a cop, you should be able to hold your own against a similarly sized person. If you are LDAR status and just use your gun then that's pretty sad.

I could also see a potential solution here since not everyone is happy. I've always commented that the highest ranking officer should be the one to fire the first shot, and only them unless the person starts spraying everywhere.

Since not everyone agrees, this could be a potential solution. I could also see a switch to rubber bullets, cop should have a magazine of rubber bullets that are non-lethal and solely used to subdue a suspect. That way if someone does get shot, it won't kill them, just hurt a lot. I do think though that weapons can and should be tracked for when they are used against the public. The public's taxes pays for the weapons, so if it is being used against the public, they have the right to know who is pulling out their gun the most, identifying that person as a risk, and reassigning them if need be. If you whip out your pistol every single time, you're not a really good cop in my opinion.

Every single one of those ridiculous demands could be met by every single police department in the US, and I could count on one hand how many innocent black lives it would save.

I was talking about incidents with police in general which is what their demands are referring to. Most of the time when things go south with law enforcement it's because people aren't being cooperative/resisting. George Floyd's case is far from the norm.

This is precisely right.

I can’t wait for them to defund the police in some liberal chit hope like Seattle to then allow the city turn into Gotham City with lawlessness combined with a vengeance. Hopefully one of these liberal chit dens will be stupid enough to allow it but unfortunately I don’t think it will happen.

Next, how the hell are you going to get small agencies that pay 8-15 dollars per hour to have the same standards/level of policing as bigger agencies that can require a college degree or military service, and have 10X the amount of training.

Are BLM also going to advocate we double or triple police budgets so we can hire the best qualified candidates, higher standards, longer/more professional training, etc.? Essentially the problem can be fixed by expanding budgets for training, wages, and upping requirements.
To me a lot of this is apparent in the area I live in, and also includes a noticeable absence of all the problems that are occurring, as they just don’t happen here. It might as well be on another planet.

We don’t have rioters. We don’t have looters. Most people don’t hate cops and the cops we do have are very highly paid and trained. Most departments, and especially the state police, are highly selective. I mean like if you aren’t a bachelor’s graduate ex frat boy who’s dad was a trooper and never missed church on Sunday; good luck, you ain’t getting in. I know people who have paid to get academy trained and certified out of their own pocket and can’t even get a police job. I’m sure it’s very different in St Louis, Baltimore, and Chicago. Sucks to have to live in one of those ****holes I guess.

I can’t imagine if I had to live in a place where all this actually goes down on a daily basis. If I didn’t have internet access I’d never know any of this was going on from out here in my little slice of ‘Merica.

Just making a policy where any time a cop is attached to a call, their body camera is on would really help. Take away control of the camera from the officer and have it turn on whenever they're on a call (pretty easy to track). If they need to use the bathroom or something, they can put themselves out using the bathroom on the computer. Fairly simple for most departments to implement depending on their body camera system and CAD.

Penalizing cops when they malfunction isn't good though because they do malfunction all the time. I'm not a computer or tech guy so I don't know why, but there's a reason why even when everything is being recorded, I have my notebook out taking notes on every call. Can't count how many times you go to look at your footage and the video isn't there, sound isn't there, or the whole file is missing or some chit. It happens. Taking this control away from the officer would solve those issues of suspicion.
